Finance Assistant – Freight & Purchase Ledger Assistant

The Role – Finance Assistant – Freight & Purchase Ledger Assistant

Working closely with the Finance, Purchasing and Operations teams, you will play an important role in ensuring our supplier accounts, purchase ledger and freight costs are managed accurately and efficiently.

The role will involve working with supplier invoices, purchase orders, freight charges, import costs, rebates and account reconciliations. You will also communicate regularly with suppliers, freight companies and colleagues across the business.

Your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

Processing supplier invoices and credit notes, ensuring they are accurately coded and matched to purchase orders

Raising and maintaining purchase orders within our stock and finance systems

Reconciling supplier statements and resolving outstanding or disputed items

Liaising with suppliers regarding invoices, payments, account balances and discrepancies

Processing and reconciling supplier rebates in line with agreed commercial terms

Supporting payment runs and maintaining accurate supplier account records

Matching freight invoices to purchase orders, delivery documentation and import records

Checking freight charges, agreed rates, surcharges, customs duties and other import-related costs

Investigating freight discrepancies and liaising with freight forwarders, suppliers and internal departments

Maintaining accurate records of freight costs and ensuring these are correctly allocated to shipments and stock

Supporting import and customs documentation processes

Maintaining finance spreadsheets, records and reports

Assisting with supplier and balance sheet reconciliations

Supporting weekly, monthly and quarterly finance routines and month-end processes

Providing general administrative support to the Finance team

Salary of between £28,000 and £33,000 dependent on experience, plus an annual performance-based bonus

20 days annual leave plus bank holidays

4-day working week

Permanent, full-time position, working 8.00am to 5.00pm, four days per week

Office-based role at our Sandycroft premises

The role is based at our offices in Sandycroft, Flintshire (North Wales), conveniently located near Chester, the Wirral, the A55 and the M56.

Our Requirements – Finance Assistant – Freight & Purchase Ledger Assistant

We are looking for an organised, reliable and detail-focused individual who enjoys working with numbers and takes pride in getting things right.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

Previous experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Purchase Ledger or similar role within a busy commercial, B2B environment

Experience processing supplier invoices, purchase orders and credit notes

Experience of supplier statement reconciliation and resolving account discrepancies

Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy

Good numeracy skills

Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively

Confidence communicating with suppliers and colleagues across the business

IT literacy, with a good working knowledge of spreadsheet software such as Excel or Google Sheets

Experience using accounting, finance, stock or ERP systems

Automotive parts industry experience and/or freight, logistics, import or customs experience would be highly desirable and considered a significant advantage.

Experience dealing with UK and European suppliers would also be beneficial.

Although not essential, an understanding of automotive parts, OE/Genuine parts, freight, logistics or import environments would be advantageous along with any multi lingual skills.

We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to learn, as much as someone with existing technical finance experience. Training and support will be provided to the right candidate.
