First City is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Finance Team as a Finance Apprentice.

This entry-level position is ideal for someone with a genuine interest in finance who is looking to develop a rewarding career while gaining practical workplace experience and studying towards an AAT Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.

Based in our Swindon office, you will join a busy and supportive finance department where you will receive hands-on training, mentorship, and the opportunity to build valuable skills in accounting, finance administration, and payroll processes.

About the Role

As a Finance Apprentice, you will play an important role in supporting the Finance Team with day-to-day activities while developing your knowledge and understanding of financial processes. This apprenticeship offers an excellent opportunity to gain industry experience, build professional skills, and work towards a recognised qualification.

You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship to develop your accounting and administrative abilities, giving you a strong foundation for a successful career in finance.

Key Responsibilities

Work with Sage 50 Accounts and other finance systems
Reconcile subcontractor invoices against agreed rates, invoicing and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy.
Prepare and process payments to subcontractors in a timely manner.
Review and maintain subcontractor accounts, investigating and resolving any discrepancies or queries.
Monitor aged debtor reports and identify outstanding debt, escalating concerns where appropriate.
Liaise with internal departments, subcontractors, and customers regarding invoice and payment queries.
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all documentation is up to date.
Support the Finance Team with month-end processes and administrative tasks.
Handle sensitive information professionally and in accordance with data protection regulations.
Complete apprenticeship coursework and assessments to a high standard.
Undertake other finance and administration duties as required to support the department. Skills:

Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and good numerical skills Requirements:

Be 16 years of age or older
Must have at least a grade C or 4 GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English or be willing to undertake Functional Skills as part of the course
Have an understanding and/or interest in Accounting/Finance Duration:

The apprenticeship will take between 12 - 18 months to complete

Courses available: Accountancy (AAT) Level 2 or 3, depending on previous qualifications

Salary: £15,600 per annum for the 1st year - Rate will be assessed after a year.

Location: Swindon

Hours: 08.30 am - 16:30pm. Monday - Friday

Some flexibility in hours may be required to suit the needs of the business.
