Role: Field Engineer
Position: Contract
Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset
Duration: 12 Months Rolling
Rate: Circa £350 p/d PAYE + 36 days annual leave // Circa £475 p/d Umbrella

Job Purpose / Overview

The Field Engineer will carry out surveillance of construction activities performed by the Contractor at the Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant construction site. The activities will relate to the construction, installation, and assembly of mechanical equipment, including static and rotating equipment, piping, pipe supports, and associated welding activities. The Field Engineer will perform surveillance activities to provide confidence that the work is being carried out in accordance with the Contractor's approved Work Information and applicable requirements. He/She will form part of a wider team, with the primary responsibility of delivering the Team Lead duties defined in the contract and ensuring that HPC's quality needs, targets, and expectations are consistently met.

Principal Accountabilities

The Field Engineer will be required to.

Check the Works are constructed in accordance with the Contractor's Work Information and notify the Construction Superintendent of deviation and non-conformance request requirements.
Submit details of any non-conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non-conformance reports.
Proactively communicate with other stakeholders of the considered scope of work, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported.
Contribute surveillance information to support KPI indicators.
Endeavour to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions
Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works
Ensure design decisions are not taken "in the field" by EDF Energy or contractors but are considered and approved via the formal Quality Process in place.
Enhance the team with a good perspective of current and future site activities.
Ensure tasks are developed to quality in accordance with the company's requirement for health, safety and environment.
Develop and maintain an understanding of contractual Technical Requirements, construction drawings, construction activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records
Ensure and monitor that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before Works are covered up
Review Contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential

A Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent) vocational training and significant experience
Experience and knowledge of pipework installation, pumps, tanks and rotating equipment
Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the materials, trades methods and legal requirements
Broad knowledge of Quality Assurance Requirements (such as ISO9001)
Excellent organisation and communication skills. Ability to work within a high performing team that continuously outperforms expectations and objectives
Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the form of contract
Good attention to detail when checking work, equipment and materials
Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors
Persuasive and diplomatic whilst remaining independentDesirable

Experience in the installation / erection of large Mechanical Equipment (including Piping activities experience)
Proven track record of working within a large construction team
General understanding of the post's obligations under CDM Regulations - along with an understanding of the document and drawing approvals processes
Strong communication skills in English are required, and knowledge of French can be an advantage
