Full job description
We are looking for a Support Worker who will provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to an individual living with a spinal cord injury (C4 ASIA C tetraplegia). The role focuses on promoting independence, supporting physical and emotional wellbeing, assisting with daily living activities, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
The individual is highly motivated to maximise her independence, return home, and work towards eventually returning to her career as a social worker. She currently requires 24-hour support.
Responsibilities:
* Provide safe, person-centred care in line with Marie’s care plan and risk assessments.
* Support with personal care, mobility, transfers, positioning, and daily living activities while maintaining dignity and independence.
* Encourage rehabilitation, confidence, and progress towards independent living.
* Provide emotional support and promote overall wellbeing.
* Support nutrition, hydration, medication, and household tasks where required and authorised.
* Assist Marie in preparing for a safe transition home to live with her partner.
* Encourage meaningful activities, social engagement, and community participation.
* Monitor and report changes in physical or emotional wellbeing and escalate concerns appropriately.
* Maintain accurate care records, daily notes, and incident reports.
* Communicate effectively with family members, managers, healthcare professionals, and the wider care team.
Requirements:
* Minimum 6 months’ recent care/support work experience.
* Experience supporting adults with complex needs or physical disabilities.
* Ability to assist with personal care, mobility, transfers, and daily living.
* Compassionate, patient, reliable, and professional approach.
* Good communication and record-keeping skills.
* Understanding of safeguarding and person-centred care.
* Willingness to work 24-hour care shifts, including weekends.
* Spinal cord injury or rehabilitation experience is desirable.
* Relevant care training and Enhanced DBS required.
