Description:
Agenda are looking to recruit a Facility Manager and NACWO to oversee the management and coordination of a rodent facility. Responsible for all aspects of the organisation and management of the animal research facility. Manages all parts of regulated and non-regulated work within the facility. Ensures compliance with requirements from regulatory agencies. Work closely with Agenda team and clients providing facility and in-vivo support, as appropriate.
As a NACWO, you will be part of the team of NACWO’s providing support and cover to the animal facilities and provide advice as well as being a specialist in rodent NACWO skills and advising project and personal licence holders to ensure compliance.
Basic Requirements:
* Qualification in a relevant science, technical or research subject
* Experience of working in a BSU facility at a management level
* NACWO qualification and experience
* Home Office Personal Licence holder
* Excellent knowledge of rodent husbandry and breeding, including good experience of managing transgenic colonies of mice
* Have excellent knowledge and understanding of ASPA
* Good knowledge of Health and Safety regulation and other applicable legislation requirements.
* Experience of supporting students and academics is desirable
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Management of rodent facilities
* Line management of Deputy Managers, Animal and Support Technicians and Licensed Facility technical staff, including staff meetings, staff support and coordination of rotas – including weekends and out of hours
* Train staff to ensure good animal care, maintenance of breeding colonies, house keeping and surgery support
* Organise and or participate in pre study meetings
* Management of strict biosecurity regimes within the facility
* Assist with reviewing budgets and expenditure with Head of Biological Services and assist with other expenditure issues as appropriate
* Be an active member of AWERB and facility user meetings, facility management and named persons meetings
* Support the NTCO with training and competency assessment of PIL holders including practical PIL-C training courses
* Be involved in the logistics and coordination of new building/alternation processes that involve the rodent facilities, including ensuring animal welfare and ASPA compliance is maintained
