Job title: Facilities assistant
Pay: £11.99ph
Temporary - permanent opportunities

Monday-Thursday: 7-3, :30Job Purpose:

To provide operational facilities services to maintain buildings and environments across the university, supporting customers in the delivery of teaching and events to students for a UK leading institution

Criteria - What will you need?

Operational Tasks:

Execute tasks as instructed through planned work scheduling and reactive helpdesk requests, including general porterage, moving furniture and equipment, and setting room layouts for teaching and events.
Ensure unwanted furniture and items are removed from buildings, and materials such as wood, metals, cardboard, and electrical equipment are correctly segregated into appropriate recycling bins and skips to maintain high recycling standards.
Minor Maintenance and Repairs:

Handle front-line minor maintenance and repairs, such as unblocking toilets, changing light bulbs, installing dispensers, mounting frames and boards, and general repairs using basic tools and equipment.
Perform ad hoc portable appliance testing when required.
Delivery and Distribution:

Distribute large volumes of deliveries to university faculties and departments promptly to support teaching and exams.
Contractor Management:

Receive external contractor partners booked via the helpdesk, ensuring inductions are completed, appropriate access is permitted, and access cards and keys are issued.
Incident Response:

Respond to building incidents (e.g., water leaks), taking appropriate first response action, including cordoning off areas with barriers and signage and reporting accordingly.
Adverse Weather Response:

Clear snow and ice in adverse weather conditions to make pathways and fire evacuation points safe, using machinery and equipment as applicable.
Event Setup:

Set up for university events such as open days, applicant visitor days, freshers' week, student shows, exams, and other student union events.
Minor Repairs and Maintenance:

Undertake minor repairs and maintenance to the tow tractor, green collection bins (wheels & brakes), and use external cleaning equipment (e.g., sweeper) as needed.
Security Support:

Assist security in managing building emergencies, incidents, and fire drills.
Carry out fire bell testing, checks, and support building evacuations, including assisting building users with specific needs (e.g., evacuation chair).
Health, Safety, and Environmental Checks:

Conduct and complete building checks, including health, safety, and environmental assessments.
Helpdesk Management:

Use the helpdesk portable device to raise and close jobs, providing status updates to customers as needed.
Collaboration:

Work with other facilities teams on projects, new builds, and refurbishments.
Support facilities contracts by providing service-related information (e.g., missed bin collections).Personal specification:

Good level of general education including English and Maths GCSE
Experience in a similar facilities role
Experience in a customer service focused environment
Relevant vocational qualifications, training or equivalent experience in manual handling, ladder training, fire evacuations, COSHH and similar
Good general understanding of health and safety requirements relevant to the role
IT skills including competence in the use of email and Microsoft Office Use of portals and other reporting tools Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with a broad range of people at all levels
Good problem-solving skills with the ability to respond sensibly to unexpected events
