Fabrication Team Supervisor / Leader / Workshop Production Manager
Location: Oldbury
Salary: £38,000 - £60,000+ per annum (Negotiable depending on experience)
Position: Permanent, Full-Time
We are recruiting for a newly created leadership position within an established engineering and fabrication business in Oldbury. Due to ongoing operational expansion, our client requires a dedicated individual to take responsibility for shopfloor fabrication operations and daily workflow.
Because this is a brand-new position within the business, our client is flexible regarding the exact level of experience. We are keen to speak with both established Workshop Managers seeking a new challenge and highly skilled, time-served Fabricator/Welders looking to take their first step up into a supervisory or Team Leader role.
The salary and overall package will be structured to match the successful candidate's practical experience and managerial scope.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise day-to-day shopfloor operations, allocating work to fabricators and monitoring job progress.
* Read and interpret complex technical engineering drawings to ensure correct specifications are met.
* Maintain quality control across all MIG, TIG, and structural fabrication work.
* Identify shopfloor bottlenecks and adjust production schedules to hit delivery targets.
* Enforce health and safety standards, risk assessments, and correct equipment usage.
* Act as the practical link between the workshop floor, office management, and senior leadership.
* For candidates entering at a senior level: handle material scheduling, capacity planning, and job costing.
Requirements
* A solid, time-served trade background in welding and fabrication (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience).
* Proven ability to read and work directly from technical engineering drawings.
* Previous supervisory experience, or a clear track record as a senior fabricator ready to move into team management.
* Strong practical knowledge of workshop safety, quality standards, and fabrication techniques.
* Clear communication skills and a direct, practical approach to problem-solving.
