Events & Communities Officer- Markets
Help us manage and develop our markets, deliver events, promote Bridgnorth and work with traders, businesses and community groups.
About Us:
Bridgnorth is an historic market town on the banks of the River Severn. The town currently has a population of 12,000 and acts as a centre for the rural area of eastern Shropshire.
It has strong links with the nearby West Midlands conurbation and is a popular leisure destination. It is likely that there will be significant population growth in the wider area over the next decade.
We are looking for a Events & Communities Officer to lead the day-to-day management, promotion and development of the Council’s retail markets, ensuring market days are well planned, safely delivered, effectively promoted and responsive to traders, visitors, residents and local businesses.
Some main duties of the role includes:
* Lead the day-to-day management and operation of Council-managed markets, ensuring that market days are planned, staffed, safely delivered and positively presented to traders, visitors and the wider community.
* Attend and support markets on regular market days, including Fridays and Saturdays, providing visible on-site management, trader liaison, customer support and prompt resolution of operational issues.
* Share responsibility with the Events and Communities Officer – Cemeteries for acting as the Council's professional point of contact for residents, community groups, businesses, volunteers, event organisers and partner organisations, each acting as the lead contact for allocated projects, services and enquiries.
* Provide a high-quality, customer-focused service to residents, councillors, colleagues, visitors, businesses and community partners.
* Work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a small team, supporting market days, meetings, training, busy periods, absences and major events as required.
The successful candidate will have the following:
* 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent experience.
* Willingness to undertake relevant training, including health and safety, event management, data protection, equality and customer service.
* Experience of managing, organising or supporting markets, retail activity, trader arrangements, business engagement or other public-facing commercial services
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to plan market days, events and service cover in advance, prioritise effectively and manage competing tasks accurately.
