Estimator / Contracts & Project Support Manager – Rochdale

Bamford Contract Services are currently recruiting on behalf of an established and growing SME within the construction, plumbing, heating and building sector.

We are looking for an experienced Estimator / Contracts & Project Support Manager to join the team and play a key role in both estimating new work and supporting the management of live construction projects.

This is a varied and important position, working closely with the Directors, site teams, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure projects are accurately priced, commercially controlled and delivered efficiently.

The ideal candidate will have a strong construction background, good commercial awareness and an understanding of how projects are priced, organised and delivered.

The Role for Estimator / Contracts & Project Support Manager

You will be involved from the initial tender and estimating stage through to the ongoing commercial and project support of live contracts.

This would suit an experienced Estimator, Assistant Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, Contracts Manager, Project Coordinator or Commercial Assistant who is looking for a varied role within an established SME.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating and costing new construction projects and contracts
Preparing accurate quotations and tender submissions
Reviewing construction drawings, specifications and scopes of work
Calculating labour, materials and subcontractor costs
Obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations
Assisting Directors with tenders and new contract opportunities
Monitoring project costs, budgets and profit margins
Supporting the commercial management of live projects
Placing and managing subcontractor orders
Reviewing subcontractor accounts and applications
Ordering materials and liaising with suppliers
Assisting with project programming and monitoring progress
Working closely with site teams to ensure projects remain on programme
Liaising with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and contractors
Identifying potential cost issues and commercial risks
Assisting with variations, valuations and cost control
Providing general contracts, commercial and project management support
Helping to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably
About You

We are looking for someone with good practical knowledge of the construction industry who understands how building, plumbing, heating and/or mechanical projects are priced and delivered.

You may currently be working as an Estimator, Assistant Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, Contracts Manager, Project Manager, Commercial Assistant or similar.

Ideally, you will have:

Previous experience within construction estimating or a commercial role
Good understanding of construction costs, labour and materials
Experience dealing with subcontractors and suppliers
Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
Strong commercial awareness
Excellent attention to detail
Good organisational and time-management skills
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Confidence dealing with Directors, clients, subcontractors and suppliers
Good Microsoft Excel and general IT skills
A practical and hands-on approach to construction projects
What We Are Looking For

This is not simply an office-based estimating position.

The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in construction and be comfortable getting involved in the wider commercial and operational side of projects.

You will understand what work involves, what it should cost and how to maintain control of costs once a project is underway.

Experience within plumbing, heating, mechanical services, building, refurbishment, maintenance, social housing or general construction would be particularly useful.
