Leading Wotton under Edge’s estate into its next phase of development.

Wotton under Edge Town Council is entering a period of significant organisational growth. As responsibilities evolve, expectations rise and the wider Gloucestershire landscape shifts, the Council is strengthening its operational capacity, modernising systems and investing in the capability needed for the future. We are looking for an Estates Manager to lead this next phase of development and ensure the Council’s buildings, green spaces and public infrastructure are managed professionally, safely and sustainably.

About the role

This is a pivotal moment to join the organisation. The Council is refreshing its Town Plan, preparing for the wider implications of Local Government Reorganisation and strengthening how it manages its estate. As Estates Manager, you will provide strategic leadership across all land, buildings and public spaces, ensuring the estate is safe, compliant and well maintained. You will oversee capital projects, refurbishment programmes and long term asset planning, while modernising systems and improving operational resilience.

You will act as the Council’s lead officer for health and safety, statutory compliance and building regulations, ensuring inspections, risk assessments and contractor activity are delivered to high standards. You will lead the Estates Team, guide operational delivery and help ensure the Council’s assets remain welcoming, reliable and ready for community use.

About you

To succeed, you will bring:

Senior level experience in estates, facilities or asset management, ideally across multiple sites
Strong understanding of planned and preventative maintenance, statutory compliance and building regulations
Experience leading teams, managing contractors and overseeing capital or refurbishment projects
Confidence managing budgets, financial planning and value for money assessments
Clear communication skills and the ability to influence, advise and build strong relationships
Sound judgement and problem solving capability in sensitive or high pressure environments
NEBOSH or equivalent (desirable), and experience with heritage or listed buildings (desirable)
You will be a trusted leader, a steady presence and a key contributor to the Council’s future direction. Your work will help ensure the estate is managed confidently, safely and efficiently, and that the Council remains ready for new responsibilities as the organisation grows.

If you are motivated by public service, confident in leading operational services and keen to help shape Wotton under Edge’s next chapter, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to make an impact.
