Description:
Environment Controls Engineer within the third level education sector, utilising building controls systems to develop, monitor and report on key metrics to enhance a quality environment and energy efficiency.
Fixed Term Contract to March 2026

Suitable candidates will need to be degree qualified in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, with experience managing BMS across large estates and facilities.
The Role
Responsible for monitoring the building environment, meeting and liaising with end users to understand and address concerns in a timely manner working closely with Estates Services
Review and analysis of building environmental management and energy performance utilising building management systems, other monitoring tools and reporting on performance
Make recommendations for system and strategy changes if required, implementing these as directed.
Responsible for monitoring and addressing issues with utility metering and data gathering systems including metering devices, software systems and for providing reports as appropriate to the Energy Manager and others.
Ensures that immediate action is taken in relation to breakdowns in controls and metering working closely as a team with maintenance co-ordinators and direct works staff.
Liaises with utility suppliers in relation to metering issues.
Provides a calibration service for meters, gauges, sensors and other instrumentation on a regular basis as may be required by regulation, statute or university procedures. Monitors calibration status on sensors and reports to asset management team to ensure a co-ordinated approach to maintenance.
Measures, monitors and reports on environmental conditions within buildings (temperature, humidity, air quality, light levels, noise, gas detection etc.) and provides reports with recommendations, implementing as directed.
Provides energy data for statutory, university statistical reports and for building and services systems performance monitoring and develops and implements management reporting/ dashboard systems.
Liaise closely with Information Services Department colleagues to monitor and report on the environment for critical IT infrastructure.
What we are looking for
Degree qualified in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Experience managing facilities services across a large estate and buildings
Experience managing BMS system
Experience with performance reporting and implementing strategy changes
Experience developing and implementing energy efficient projects for building controls and facilities
Technical knowledge of heating plant systems, electrical power and heat distribution
Excellent communication and reporting skills with ability to work at all levels
