Engineering Team Leader – Test and Inspection

The Engineering Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the test technician team, ensuring that all products and systems are tested thoroughly and meet the required standards and specifications. This role involves managing test schedules, supervising technicians, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of testing procedures.

List of key tasks:

Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of test technicians and inspectors.

Coordinate and assign daily tasks and testing schedules.

Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.

Develop and implement test plans and Standard Operating Procedures.

Coordinate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to prioritise testing activities.

Ensure test setups and environments are prepared and maintained.

Monitor testing processes to ensure compliance with industry standards and company protocols.

Implement corrective actions for any deviations from standards or specifications.

Assist test technicians in diagnosing and resolving complex issues.

Conduct root cause analysis for test failures and non-conformances. Minimise the occurrence of QFRs.

Recommend and implement improvements to testing procedures and methodologies.

Ensure all test equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly.

Schedule regular maintenance and calibration of test equipment.

Manage inventory of test supplies and equipment.

Ensure all testing activities are documented accurately and promptly.

Prepare and review detailed test reports and summaries to enhance efficiencies.

Maintain records of test results, equipment maintenance, and calibration.

Train new test technicians on testing procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols.

Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for team members.

Enforce safety guidelines and protocols within the testing area.

Ensure all testing activities comply with regulatory and company safety standards.

Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions as necessary.

Efficiently manage equipment use to reduce operational cost and downtime.

Driving weekly Customer output and co-ordination with Production to facilitate Customer deliveries.

Providing 1st line support to inspectors and technicians in inspection, fault finding, diagnosis, and test where time constraints are critical.

Management of the calibration and or maintenance schedules in accordance with Company ISO requirements to ensure full compliance to standards.

Producing jigs, tools, and equipment for Test and Inspection and test and inspection infrastructure planning and maintenance.

Working with Production Manager and Buyers to implement and control test procedures for NPI builds.

Driving and continuously improving standards of workmanship and monitoring of quality control initiatives and pro-active management of 5S standards for cleanliness, ensuring compliance to Health and Safety standards

Demonstrating personal leadership attributes and encouraging Inspectors and Test technician professional behaviour in line with Company HR policies.

Lead the Test and Inspection Team. This will be accomplished by: -

Identifying production critical processes and critical success factors.

Carrying out 5S and other Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Managing the Performance Measurement Process (PMP), Training Files and ISO Matrix.

Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues and partake in cross-functional team projects.

Conduct any other duties commensurate with the role in close coordination with Engineering Manager.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a testing or quality assurance role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership position.

Working hours are onsite Mon – Thu 07:45 – 16:30, Fri 07:45 – 13:00
