Description:
Keep the technology moving. Keep production growing.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering & Maintenance Manager to take ownership of the engineering, maintenance and reliability of a state-of-the-art growing and production facility in Wiltshire.
This is a hands-on management role for someone who enjoys variety, solving problems and making sure critical equipment performs when it matters most. With modern glasshouses, clean-room production areas, laboratories and sophisticated monitoring systems, the successful candidate will play a key role in keeping the entire operation running safely, efficiently and reliably.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, the Engineering & Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance function across the site, supervising maintenance technicians while remaining actively involved in day-to-day engineering activity.
The role will include responsibility for:
* Leading and developing the maintenance team, overseeing repairs and daily engineering activities.
* Planning and implementing preventative maintenance programmes to minimise equipment downtime.
* Supporting critical infrastructure including industrial heating, electrical and cooling systems.
* Working closely with Growing, Production, Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Security to minimise disruption to operations.
* Managing equipment suppliers and contractors, ensuring parts are sourced efficiently and contracted work is completed to a high standard.
* Supporting cultivation and processing teams with day-to-day engineering requirements.
* Monitoring maintenance KPIs, including ticket completion and machine downtime.
* Maintaining accurate engineering records and documentation.
* Supporting audits, inspections and regulatory requirements.
* Ensuring high standards of health & safety, biosecurity, hygiene and site security are maintained.
The Person
The successful candidate is likely to have 2–4 years’ engineering or maintenance experience, ideally gained within a glasshouse, production, manufacturing or similarly technical environment.
They will bring:
* Strong practical knowledge of machinery and equipment.
* Previous experience supervising or leading a team.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
* A proactive, hands-on approach to fault finding and maintenance.
* The ability to motivate, train and develop team members.
* Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
* The ability to work within strict safety, hygiene and biosecurity procedures.
* Competence with Microsoft Office and electronic record systems.
* The physical capability to undertake hands-on maintenance when required.
* Electrical qualifications would be highly desirable.
Why This Role?
This is far more than a traditional maintenance management position. The facility is purpose-built and incorporates modern equipment, technology and monitoring systems, meaning the Engineering & Maintenance Manager will have a genuine opportunity to influence site reliability, preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.
For someone who enjoys being close to the operation, leading from the front and tackling engineering challenges in a fast-moving environment, it offers a varied role where no two days are likely to be the same.
The successful candidate will also have a direct impact on operational performance, with success measured through reduced machine downtime, timely maintenance completion, strong safety performance and effective team development.
