Location: Bromford (Birmingham)

Contract length: 6 month initial contract - Potential to be extended

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday 08.00am - 17.00pm/ 08.30am - 17.30pm (onsite)

Contract Type: Inside IR35

Must be able to drive, have a full clean licence and access to your own vehicle

Balfour Beatty, a global infrastructure group, is looking to take on an Engineering Design Coordinator on an initial 6 Month contract that could potentially be extended. The successful Engineering Design Coordinator will be joining a Team of 4 Design Coordinators and 1 Apprentice. You will be directly reporting into the Deputy Design Manager and helping them manage and coordinate their workload.

This is a major project to be a part of and therefore, ideal experience will be working on similar Major Multi £££ Infrastructure projects whether that is in Rail, Highways or Smart Highways. Previous experience of working both in Design and Construction will be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities of the Engineering Design Coordinator role:

Deliver a fully integrated and coordinated design ready for construction to meet project requirements.

*

Responsible for a large multi-disciplinary design team, located in the UK and overseas.

*

Ensure the designs take full account of the construction methodology, sequence and temporary works, under the direction of the Principal Contractor’s Temporary Works

*

Coordinator and supported by the Temporary Works Design Lead.

*

Ensure the role of the Designer is fulfilled in accordance with CDM2015 and ensure that a CDM Design Risk Register is maintained documenting the design actions taken with due regard to the Principles of Prevention. This requires active use of BBV’s CDM Safetibase and engagement with HS2 operations and maintenance representatives.

*

Ensure the design resources have the competency to fulfill the role of Designer (as required by CDM) and coordinate with the BBV Health & Safety department for training and development.

*

Ensure multidisciplinary input to the design for the necessary expertise and coordination, including other BBV teams (internal), HS2 and external stakeholders. Ensure the design meets the HS2 Environmental Minimum Requirements, including all requirements for environmental mitigation.

*

Embedded in the principles of the HS2 design vision under the direction of the BBV Technical Directorate.

*

Designs to be fully compliant with the Works Information Contract Requirements Technical (CRT), Technical Standards.

*

Designs to be fully assured in accordance with the Works Information and BBV Project

*

Execution Plan and Technical Assurance processes. Acceptance of the design by the Technical Approval Authority and external approval bodies such as Highways Authorities, Network Rail, Statutory Undertakers.

*

Acceptance of the design by internal checkers and reviewers (including CAT 2 checks and other BBV departments). Acceptance of the design by CAT3 checkers.

*

Work in accordance with the BBV Design Management Plan and the Basis of Design documents.

*

Ensure Design Briefs are prepared prior to design work commencing.

*

Ensure Technical Queries are raised in a timely manner and seek early resolution to avoid impact on the design programme.

*

Maintain an up to date design assumption log and close out prior to final technical assurance stages.

*

Maintain an up to date design risk register and close out prior to final technical assurance stages.

*

Ensure Departures are raised and accepted where strictly necessary for area of responsibility.

*

Work closely with the BBV Consents team to ensure design deliverables are produced to meet consent application requirements.

*

Work closely with the stakeholder management and community liaison teams to ensure designs are shared externally where necessary.

*

Ensure work is undertaken in accordance with the BIM Execution Plan, ensuring that design information conforms to the necessary standards and can be shared for use in

*

4D and 5D planning and cost estimation.

*

Prepare Design Interface Control Documents in coordination with the Design & Engineering Interface Control Leads (where appointed for key stakeholders).

*

Prepare designs in accordance with the agreed design programme and with an agreed resource to meet budget constraints.

*

Timely communication of risks to the Design Project Manager and undertake risk mitigation actions, as agreed at Risk Reduction meetings).

*

Timely communication of change to the Design Project Manager, providing support for preparation of Compensation Events (cost and programme impacts).

*

Technical skills to be aligned to the type of work in the section of responsibility, e.g. highways, highways structures, high speed rail structures, conventional rail interface, earthworks, tunnels, retaining walls.

Key Skills/ Experience Required for the Engineering Design Coordinator:

Qualified Civil Engineer or similar equivalent, with multi-disciplinary breadth

Civil/ Structural or Geotechnical based Degree

Excellent knowledge and understanding of Design and Construction

Excellent communication skills

Understanding of the construction environment for safe and buildable designs

Experience of working with a major design consultancy

Have previous experience of working on high profile multi million/ billion £££ projects

Highly organised with good management and coordination skills

BBV behaviours, respecting equality and diversity

Leading teams, people management skills, effective delegation, mentoring & coaching and developing others

Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and, in particular, Designer and Principal Designer duties

Excellent Digital Skills

Desirable Skills/ Experience for the Engineering Design Coordinator:

Minimum 5 years relevant experience

Large scale linear project experience (eg rail, highway or similar).

Experience and confidence to constructively challenge to optimise design solutions which balance project requirements, risks and constraints

Negotiation and issue resolution skills

Membership of a relevant professional body

CSCS card
