Role: Embedded software engineer

Location: Glasgow

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000

Hybrid working policy: 4x days onsite initially and then more flexible after 6 months with 50% remote but my client likes to offer a very healthy work life balance and a happy balanced work environment.

Before you apply:

This is a small company, and you will need to have a minimum of 5 years + experience and be able to hit the ground running and be confident to lead projects.

This client DO NOT work with defence clients BUT do work with medical clients so being process driven is important and any experience is ISO 62304 is desired but not essential.

The client does require a strong embedded firmware engineer with embedded C and RTOS (real time operating) experience and integration test experience.

The role

You will work alongside a small team of multidisciplinary engineers to build products which address a range of weird and wonderful problems. We've built everything from consumer products to medical diagnostic devices.

This role will see you work on products across all stages of the development cycle: from requirements capture with the customer, through feasibility studies, system/software architecture, prototyping, testing, certification, production set-up, and completed product handover.

You will work on a selection of ever-evolving external and internal projects using a variety of technologies to deliver the best possible solutions.

Responsibilities

Architect, write, deploy, test, and document product embedded software systems
Develop unit, system verification, and functional tests
Put in place documentation structures and templates
Manage multiple projects in parallel
Work as part of a team to create project specification documents and work package estimates
Identify and explore new technologies, techniques, processes, and tools that could be leveraged for future projects

Requirements

Bachelors' Degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE), Electronics and Software Engineering (ESE/ECE), or Computing Science (CS) [Minimum]
6+ years of experience writing robust firmware in Embedded C
Solid understanding of full software development life cycle
Experience with embedded software unit testing technologies and methodologies
Experience with wired and wireless communication protocols
First-hand experience with EIC/ISO 62304 compliant development
Comfort with a variety of IDEs and RTOS
Excellent attention to detail and an understanding of design decisions and their implications
Permission to work in the UK

Nice to have

Direct IoT product development experience
Embedded Linux development experience (kernel and software)
Proficiency in additional scripting or programming languages (Python, Java, JS, Go, etc)
Experience coordinating software teams with multiple parallel projects
Electronics prototyping and hardware design experience
