* Monday to Friday - Flexible start and finish essential.
* 35 hours paid per week MAX.
We have a fantastic and rare opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Electronics Technicians to join a University’s Electronics Team within Faculty of Science & Engineering (FSE).
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* HNC/HND/Degree depending on practical experience.
* Experience and knowledge of programming microcontrollers in C/C++, ASM.
* Extensive experience of working in an electronics workshop/laboratory environment.
* Extensive knowledge of electronic and/or mechanical construction and repair techniques, surface mount technology, solder rework and repair.
* Experience with software packages for the design and fabrication of PCBs, programming microcontrollers, simulation software related to electronic circuits.
* Ability to work in a fast paced, busy teaching environment with a positive helpful attitude and commitment to problem solving.
* Able to cope and work under pressure and work to deadlines.
* Able to deal with staff at all levels in a pleasant, helpful, and efficient manner.
* Well organised.
* Good communicator.
The Role:
** To deliver a reliable and comprehensive electronics support service across FSE.
** Provide an electronics service to staff and students to support teaching and research, with a commitment to excellent customer service.
** To demonstrate and teach in the School’s teaching laboratories.
** Development, repair, and construction of specialised electronic equipment for research and teaching including PCB design using CAD software.
Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities or Duties:
* Demonstrate and teach in undergraduate laboratory classes.
* Develop and plan, in collaboration with academic staff, laboratory experiments.
* Train postgraduate student demonstrators to enable them to perform at required level.
* Modification, maintenance, service, and repairs to electronic equipment in support of the Schools research, teaching and student projects.
* Calibration, fault diagnosis and testing of electrical and electronic equipment.
* Provide assistance and advice to academic, research staff and students on the selection, suitability and application of electronic circuits and equipment.
* Training of technical staff in workshop techniques and in the use of electronic equipment as directed by the workshop manager.
* Recording, tabulating of workload data in a workshop data base system.
* Preparation of circuit diagrams, drawings, and electronic specifications.
* Liaison with outside suppliers, ordering of equipment and materials and control of consumables stock.
* To undertake other duties commensurate with the grade and experience of the post-holder.
Health and Safety
* To follow procedures appertaining to the safe operation of equipment and usage. To ensure continuing compliance with all health and safety regulations, undertaking appropriate staff training.
* To assist the workshop manager with the management of all health and safety matters in the School’s workshop areas.
General
* To act at all times in accordance with the University’s policies and procedures relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and all other policies and procedures, which apply to the post.
