Electronics Engineer -Electronics Control Device and Sensor Development

NuTissu are developing a Medical Device to address chronic wounds. The company is aiming to achieve rapid progress of a device development objectives to reach pre-clinical trials with the support of an exceptionally talented Electronics Engineer with an understanding of Software relevant to a Medtech device. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of a Medical Device Development Process, in particular, designing and testing miniaturised electronics of the Medical Device and software.

The role requires a hands-on approach involving the development of the device with a view to transferring the products from prototype into manufacturing. The candidate will have evidence of excellent theoretical and technical knowledge of electronics and electrical interfaces: existing proven experience in electronic hardware, sensor development in accordance with industry standards, detailed designing, designing PCBs, writing firmware/software code and able to perform these tasks self-sufficiently (with support from senior engineering advisors to verify and validate) to create a fully functional electronic product.

Responsibilities Details

Designing and building the core electronic components of a device, create accurate and complex circuit-board plans for use in device

Develop electro-mechanical sensors and instrumentation

Design sensor integration methods

Design testing hardware, firmware, and software and procedures to ensure the device fully conforms to the Design Specification

Drawing up detailed schematics and models using computer design software such as CAD using Altium or equivalent

PCB schematic layout and development

Running effective testing and diagnostics to ensure optimal functionality of the device, validate and verify to measured product improvements, such as safer interfaces and optimal functionality.

Keeping up to date on changes in health and safety rules or regulations concerning electronic work related to medical devices; a good understanding of medical device safety requirements

Manage project documentation and testing plans, providing progress reports and analytics to management

Excellent record keeping, writing and maintenance of associated design and test documentation of data/technical info to build a suitable technical file suitable for regulatory approval submission.

Person Specifications -Essential

Undergraduate degree in Engineering (desirable if with Computing) and (preferable with)Masters in Engineering in Electronic Engineering with at least three years industrial experience in device development preferably in Medical devices or equivalent (Mobile application development, Aerospace, Automotive, Construction, Information technology)

1. Deep knowledge and experience in microcontrollers (MCU) and embedded system design (microcontroller firmware development, desktop software development and design for relevant regulatory requirements)

2. Experience interfacing with embedded hardware using protocols such as UART, I2C, SPI, RS232, USB, Ethernet

3. Proficient knowledge of sensors, Sensor data analysis, and IoT architecture (preferably experience in Azure IoT Hub

4. Low power design and battery management

5. Expertise in debugging and improving complex software systems

6. Experience with designing, developing and verifying electronic schematics advantageous

7. Proven experience of electronic prototyping and testing. Previous role/s may have been; Electronic Design Engineer, Application Engineer, PCB Design Engineer, Electronics Engineer, Hardware Engineer or similar.

8. A working knowledge of appropriate software tools such as Electronic Design Automation and simulation tools, along with other common office software packages.

9. Ability to create accurate and complex circuit board plans: Experience working with any major PCB design software from concept to production

10. Hands-on skills for soldering and building of prototypes with Surface Mount Device (SMD) and Plated Through Hole (PTH) components.

11. Experience testing and debugging PCBs

12. Electronic prototype test experience: Knowledge of test procedures used to verify safety and performance of specialist medical equipment, methods of implementing safety test measures and testing.

13. Knowledge of Analogue and Digital Electronics at component level, including input signal conditioning and conversion, power supplies, output drivers, peripheral interfacing, and user interfaces.

14. Full right to work in the UK

Person Specifications – Desirable

1. R&D Experience developing electronics throughout the full product lifecycle.

2. An interest in electronics concept development, detailed design, and design for manufacture for: medical and diagnostic devices, consumer personal electronics devices

3. Awareness of medical device processes and standards (ISO13485, 62304, 60601)

4. Experience in designing proof of concept (PoC) systems using Python / MATLAB and microcontrollers

5. Knowledge of machine learning and AI

6. Proven track record in electronic design, flex circuits, experience using CAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Eplan or equivalent.

7. Experience with CAD software eg. Fusion 360
