Workshop Winder / Electro-Mechanical Fitter
Job Overview
An established engineering company is seeking an experienced Workshop Winder / Electro-Mechanical Fitter to join its workshop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, dismantling, repair, rewinding, testing, and reassembly of a wide range of rotating electrical equipment, including electric motors, pumps, generators, gearboxes, and associated mechanical assemblies.
This role is integral to delivering high-quality repair and refurbishment services while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Dismantle, inspect, repair, rewind, and reassemble AC and DC electric motors, pumps, generators, fans, and gearboxes.
* Carry out rewinding of single-phase and three-phase electric motors using approved winding techniques.
* Perform electrical testing of motor windings, including insulation resistance, continuity, surge, and functional testing.
* Apply controlled burnout procedures where appropriate to remove existing windings without damaging core laminations.
* Manufacture, install, connect, and test replacement windings to meet original equipment specifications.
* Inspect reusable components, identify wear or hidden defects, and recommend suitable repair or replacement.
* Conduct incoming inspections of electro-mechanical equipment to identify mechanical damage, electrical faults, and operational failures.
* Complete service reports, inspection records, testing documentation, and quality control paperwork accurately.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Time-served Mechanical or Electrical Engineering apprenticeship.
* ONC, HNC, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent engineering qualification.
* Proven experience in the repair, overhaul, and rewinding of rotating electrical equipment.
* Strong knowledge of electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, generators, and associated mechanical systems.
* Experience using electrical test equipment and fault-finding techniques.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
