Technical Lead - Electrical

Can be based from either Derby or Coventry. 2 days on site, 3 days remote

Ongoing contract

We are working in partnership with Severn Trent who currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Electrical bias Technical Lead to join them on a contract basis. The purpose of the role is to provide Technical Electrical Engineering expertise to the capital programme ensuring design standards and regulations are met. Water industry experience is preferred. 

Role Objective:

With the creation of a Design function and the shift towards operating as the Expert Client in the Capital Delivery & Commercial Organisation, there is a need to grow and develop the Design capability and expertise, the standards for the design team, and the governance around design delivery and ensure these align with the benefits this delivers to Severn Trent Water.
This shift underpins the need for greater standardisation, consistency and quality. As such, requires an individual with significant experience at Electrical Technical lead level in the design function to set, maintain and raise the standards for the Electrical discipline within the design function.
This role will be accountable for determining the techniques, templates, tools and processes required to establish and improve the Capital Delivery Design standards within this discipline “How we do things in Design for Capital Delivery”
This role will explore the opportunities to deploy tactical short term Research & Development and adopt new techniques and technologies for the immediate benefit of delivering the capital programme. As such, the individual will be expected to have a wide network within the industry and strong relationships throughout the supply chain.
This role was ensure that individuals are competent for the tasks they are being asked to perform in their discipline, and reviewing workload to ensure the best person for the job is being utilised throughout the Design function.
Ensure that the work in their discipline is checked and signed off by a person competent in their discipline.
In addition to the above, this role will be required to develop and mentor individual apprentices and engineers in their discipline throughout the design function to grow the individual’s skills, capabilities and qualifications.
This individual will be the ‘go to’ person for all discipline queries within the 250 plus design community and the wider supply chain for the entire capital programme
Key Accountabilities:

With input from senior leaders in Chief Engineer and elsewhere in design, this role will determine how we work, the standards we adopt in this discipline.
Assess the design capability required in this discipline to deliver the AMP7 programme
Drive innovation and develop new approaches and solutions
Communicate improvements to the Design team and hold leaders to account for adoption of standards (encouraging challenge and feedback for the purpose of innovation)
Ensure learnings from post investment reviews are evaluated driving updates to standards, frameworks or innovation
Establish network of external stakeholders to capture learnings, understand innovation and best practice and build into the plans for Capital Design technical standards
Provide input to the L&D strategy for the Design community
Define and create the mechanisms for assuring demonstrated evidence of capability (for Design development)
Experience:

In order to succeed in this role it is desired that you will have, however not compulsory:

Experience in providing technical leadership to a large programme of capital works.
The ability to lead by technical  example a team engineers
Experience of working in a design environment (Utilities preferred) at a senior level.
Experience of introducing (or extensive use of) QMS systems
Effective at integrating with matrix teams
Wide network of contacts within the profession and contacts throughout the supply chain
