A new contract opportunity has become available for a senior-level Electrical Design Engineer to join a progressive Water Treatment consultancy firm in the Midlands. This is an exciting time to join the business, and we can offer outside IR35 contracts, remote working, and competitive daily rates. As this opportunity is remote, we can be flexible in location, so long as applicants are situated in the UK and must have proof of right to work in the UK

Job Summary:

To design, develop, and deliver electrical systems for wastewater treatment plants and associated infrastructure. The role involves producing detailed electrical designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, supporting project delivery, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective wastewater solutions.

Responsibilities of the Electrical Design Engineer:

Prepare detailed electrical designs for wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, and related infrastructure.
Develop single-line diagrams (SLDs), control philosophy documents, schematics, cable schedules, and equipment layouts.
Size and select motors, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, control panels, and instrumentation.
Ensure designs meet BS EN, IEC, and local electrical standards (e.g., IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671).
Design and integrate control and automation systems (PLC/SCADA) in coordination with ICA engineers.
Prepare technical specifications, data sheets, and tender documentation for electrical packages.
Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and power distribution studies.
Support sustainable design and energy-efficiency initiatives in wastewater projects.
Project Management & Coordination
Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and process engineers to ensure integrated designs.
Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers during design, procurement, and construction phases.
Provide technical support during commissioning, testing, and handover.
Review contractor designs and submittals for compliance and quality assurance.
Maintain project schedules and deliverables to ensure timely completionEssential Requirements of the Electrical Design Engineer

Bachelor's degree (BEng / BSc) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Experienced in electrical design for water/wastewater projects.
Proven knowledge of LV/HV systems, motor control, lighting, earthing, and power distribution.
Experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Amtech / Trimble ProDesign, ETAP, EPLAN, or similar).
Familiarity with PLC/SCADA integration and instrumentation/control systems.
Strong understanding of water industry standards (e.g., WIMES, DWI, WRAS, or equivalent).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Desirable:

Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working toward it.
Experience with renewable energy integration (e.g., solar PV, energy recovery systems).
Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and Revit MEP.
Familiarity with site installation, testing, and commissioning procedures.
Experience working with major UK water utilities (e.g., Thames Water, Anglian Water, Severn Trent)
