Lead Electrical Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our client’s team in Somerset, supporting the Lead Electrical Engineer on a new nuclear build project. As part of our client’s team, you will have the opportunity to work on a high-profile project, gaining valuable experience and skills in the nuclear sector.
We are looking for an individual with a strong educational background in electrical engineering, holding a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or degree in a related field. Professional membership or certification from a reputable institution is also desirable.
This role will involve occasional travel to suppliers' sites and may involve exposure to high-voltage equipment and construction environments.

The role is outside IR35 and the rate of £60/ hr is all in and will include any accomodation expenses and travel.

Job Summary:
The Lead Electrical Engineer is responsible for construction design verification and the technical compliance of the installation of electrical network. The individual will also be responsible to support the installation of cabling, components, and systems of the main electrical systems within the Turbine Hall of HPC (New Nuclear Build) project. The role requires a good understanding of both nuclear engineering principles and electrical engineering practices to ensure safety and quality compliance with stringent industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
The Lead Electrical Engineer will have the responsibility to support the Engineering & Design team through provision of Electrical Design Services including:
• Verification of the client’s tray work and supports design necessary for procurement and preparation for installation.
• Verification of the single line diagrams and cable schedules
• Verification of the earthing diagrams
• Oversight of the development of electrical systems installation design and components based on nuclear site specifications and requirements.
• Ensure all designs comply with nuclear industry codes, standards, and regulations.
• Prepare and submit documentation for client approvals and reviews.
• Provide technical support for electrical equipment/systems installation preparations.
• Work packages encompass varying project stages from concept design, through detail design to construction.
• Lead a small design and construction team in supporting the works.
Essential Skills:
• Extensive experience (at least 5 years) in a relevant design role including successful delivery of electrical installation designs within projects for the nuclear sector.
• Strong experience in UK nuclear or nuclear decommissioning construction projects
• Experience of E&I design best practices.
• Strong understanding of design process & associated documentation
• Project lifecycle experience (concept, detail design through to construction, testing and handover)
• Knowledge of data and administrative management practices and procedures
• Familiarity with CDM Regulations 2015 together with experience of undertaking ‘Designer’ requirements
• Strong understanding of electrical standards and regulations (e.g., IEEE, NEC).
Desirable Skills:
• Ability to work from nuclear licence site with overarching responsibility for the electrical installation.
• Collaborative skills and experience working as part of a multi-discipline team.
• Ability to participate in constructability reviews and provide construction support.
• Ability to work in a team or alone, comfortable to liaise with client and vendor representatives.
• Ability to identify innovative solutions and embrace emerging technology.
• Possess strong communication and organisational skills.
• Software Packages eg. Microsoft suite of programs
