Description:

Our client, a leading UK contractor, is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Manager to join their growing team, supporting the delivery of major projects in the London/Cambridge region. The business operates an in-house MEP delivery strategy, aimed at reducing reliance on external suppliers while improving quality, safety, and programme certainty. The role will involve close collaboration with MEP consultants, BIM coordinators, and specialist designers to maximise value and mitigate risk. Projects are primarily located across London and the South East and span sectors including Healthcare, Residential/Regeneration, Education, and Data Centres.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Management

Support the delivery and coordination of electrical design information
Review and validate designs to ensure compliance, quality, and value
Approve key plant, equipment selections, and specialist subcontractor designs

Stakeholder Management

Build strong working relationships with consultants, designers, and supply chain partners
Support appointments of consultants, BIM teams, and specialist designers

Design Coordination & Oversight

Monitor progress and performance of design teams
Manage coordination between multiple design disciplines and stakeholders
Ensure the integration of design outputs across project packages

Risk & Value Management

Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities
Develop and implement value engineering solutions
Ensure design decisions align with programme and commercial objectives

Health, Safety & Compliance

Promote a "designing for safety" approach
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards
Consider environmental and wellbeing factors within design solutions

Project Support & Delivery

Verify installation against design intent on site
Provide technical support during commissioning and troubleshooting phases

Job Requirements:

Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in a construction or engineering discipline
Experience within MEP consultancy, or main contractor / MEP subcontractor environments
Strong understanding of design management and delivery processes, MEP systems, materials, and technologies, and preconstruction and procurement activities
Knowledge of Building Regulations and current UK legislation, RIBA Plan of Work and BSRIA BG6, and CDM Regulations and HSE requirements
Experience with BIM and digital engineering, technical risk management, and design assurance
Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills
