Electrical Engineering Lead - Contract

Location: Chichester (4 days per week onsite)
Contract: 6 Months
Rate: Competitive (Outside IR35 status to be confirmed)

The Opportunity

We're supporting a well-established engineering organisation in the search for an experienced Electrical Engineering Lead to join their team on an initial 6-month contract.

This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Electrical Design and Commissioning team while providing technical oversight across a range of engineering projects. The successful candidate will combine strong leadership skills with extensive electrical design expertise and be comfortable supporting projects through design, testing, factory acceptance, and commissioning.

The position is primarily office-based, with 4 days per week onsite in Chichester, alongside occasional travel to customer sites to support project delivery, inspections, and commissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, manage and support the Electrical Design and Commissioning team, providing technical guidance and day-to-day leadership.
Oversee the electrical design and commissioning elements of multiple engineering projects.
Review and approve electrical designs to ensure compliance with engineering standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Support the development of project plans, technical documentation, and procurement activities.
Review and specify appropriate electrical and instrumentation equipment for project delivery.
Participate in and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), customer inspections, and commissioning activities.
Provide technical input to project bids, tenders, and commercial proposals.
Monitor project progress and communicate technical updates to project stakeholders.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, engineering best practice, and process development.
Mentor and support the wider engineering team throughout project delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience

HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience in an electrical design leadership or senior electrical engineering role.
Strong background in electrical system design, instrumentation, and commissioning.
Experience reviewing technical documentation including:
Electrical schematics
Wiring diagrams
P&IDs
Functional design specifications
Control philosophies
Working knowledge of AutoCAD (or similar electrical design software).
Understanding of PLCs, control systems, variable speed drives (VSDs), and industrial electrical equipment.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities within a project environment.

Desirable Experience

Experience within any of the following sectors would be beneficial:

Industrial manufacturing
Process engineering
Energy or utilities
Water or wastewater
Chemical processing
Oil & gas
Renewables
Infrastructure or other regulated engineering environmentsKnowledge of hazardous area standards (such as ATEX or IECEx) and relevant electrical safety regulations would be advantageous but is not essential
