Description:

Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services

Location: Lancashire

Salary: Up to £60,000, depending on experience

The Client

Our client is a growing building services consultancy based in Lancashire, with a strong MEP team of more than 10 people. Their varied project portfolio includes education and healthcare, alongside commercial, residential, leisure and industrial developments.

They are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team, with scope to appoint at intermediate level or consider someone ready to move into their first senior position.

The Role

You will develop electrical building services designs across new-build and refurbishment projects, taking responsibility for your own design packages with support from experienced engineers. This is an opportunity to broaden your project experience and take on greater responsibility within a growing consultancy.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Designing internal and external lighting, emergency lighting and lighting controls.

* Producing small power layouts and electrical distribution designs, including load assessments, cable sizing and distribution board schedules.

* Developing designs and specifications for CCTV, card access and door entry systems, and fire and intruder alarms.

* Preparing electrical calculations, drawings, specifications and schedules from concept through to detailed design and tender.

* Undertaking site surveys to assess existing installations and establish refurbishment requirements.

* Coordinating electrical designs with mechanical engineers, architects and other members of the project team.

* Attending design meetings and responding to technical queries from clients and contractors.

* Reviewing contractor submissions and undertaking site visits to assess installation progress and quality.

* Delivering assigned work within agreed deadlines, with appropriate technical review from senior colleagues.

* Taking increasing ownership of smaller projects or electrical packages as your experience develops.

About You

* A degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.

* A minimum of 2–3 years’ post-graduation experience in electrical building services design.

* Practical experience designing lighting, small power and associated electrical systems within buildings.

* Experience with CCTV, access control, fire alarm and intruder alarm design.

* A working knowledge of relevant UK electrical regulations and building services design standards.

* Confidence producing design calculations, drawings and technical specifications.

* Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

* The ambition to develop towards a senior role, or the capability to step into your first senior appointment.

The Opportunity

A salary of up to £60,000, depending on experience, and the opportunity to join a growing Lancashire consultancy with an established MEP team and a varied project workload.
