Electrical & Controls Project Engineer I Onsite I Cambridgeshire I £Comp

Our client, a leader in the manufacture of advanced composite materials, is seeking an experienced Electrical & Controls Project Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering electrical and controls engineering projects that improve safety, reliability, and production performance. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives, support manufacturing operations, and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions.

The Role

As an Electrical & Controls Project Engineer, you will support maintenance, project, and process engineering activities while leading projects from concept through to successful implementation. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver electrical and control system improvements that enhance operational efficiency and minimise production downtime.

Key Responsibilities

Lead electrical and controls engineering projects from concept through to implementation.

Support maintenance, project, and process activities to improve safety and production efficiency.

Develop electrical and control system specifications for manufacturing equipment.

Create and maintain electrical, instrumentation, and control documentation.

Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Support equipment breakdowns and help restore production efficiently.

Participate in the technical support call-out rota.

Identify and implement control system improvements across the manufacturing site.

Plan and manage project schedules while minimising disruption to production.

Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and management.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

A degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.

Experience in electrical controls and instrumentation engineering.

Previous experience within a manufacturing or process environment.

Knowledge of PLC systems, including Rockwell Logix 5000 & 500 and RSView.

Understanding of safety systems, including SIL and Safety PLCs.

Experience with industrial drives such as Allen Bradley and ABB.

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, including experience with 4–20mA instrumentation loops and controllers.

Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies such as HAZOP and FMEA.

Knowledge of ATEX requirements, commissioning processes, and machine safety standards.

Competence in Microsoft Office and basic CAD software such as AutoCAD or EPlan.

Eligibility

Due to the nature of this business, applicants must be eligible to comply with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements. Sponsorship is not available for this role and all candidate must have existing right to work in the UK on a permanent basis.
