Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Electrical Commissioning Engineer to lead, coordinate, and oversee the commissioning of complex electrical systems. In this role, you will be responsible for everything from Low Voltage (LV) up to Extra High Voltage (EHV) 400 kV grid interface equipment.

Operating within a high-integrity nuclear environment, you will ensure the highest standards of safety, configuration control, and technical compliance are met, driving systems from installation through to successful energisation.

Key Responsibilities

Campaign Planning & Coordination: Develop comprehensive commissioning test plans, review schedules, confirm resource and equipment availability, and ensure the latest revisions of commissioning instructions are strictly utilized.

Hands-on Execution & Oversight: Oversee the commissioning of LV, HV, and EHV electrical systems, including switchboards, transformers, batteries, UPS, protection relays, interlocks, and EHV grid interface equipment (up to 400 kV).

Safety Leadership: Apply and enforce stringent nuclear, electrical, and industrial safety requirements. Lead pre-job briefs, conduct point-of-work risk assessments, and maintain rigorous surveillance of safety rule compliance.

Configuration Control & IT Management: Review and validate redline markups, manage temporary modifications, and ensure all commissioning data is accurately captured in enterprise IT systems (e.g., EAM, Switch, CMS).

Technical Analysis & Resolution: Analyse and verify commissioning results against strict acceptance criteria. Identify deviations and actively engage with designers or vendors for technical resolution.

Governance & Compliance: Manage governance activities, including the control of commissioning hold points. Ensure all tests meet nuclear safety justification requirements and provide traceable LC6 evidence packages.

Multidiscipline Collaboration: Support mechanical, I&C, and process commissioning teams on complex systems that contain electrical interactions or safety dependencies.

System Walkdowns & Handover: Lead system walkdowns to verify completeness, review handover documentation, close out punchlist items, and officially confirm readiness for testing or energisation.

Qualifications and Experience

Technical Expertise: Proven experience in commissioning high-voltage electrical infrastructure, specifically up to 400 kV.

Industry Background: Extensive experience working within the nuclear sector or a highly regulated, high-hazard industry.

Systems Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of protection relays, interlocks, transformers, UPS systems, and switchboards.

Regulatory Familiarity: Deep understanding of nuclear safety justifications, configuration control, and Licence Condition (LC) compliance (specifically LC6).

Tools: Familiarity with asset and commissioning management software (e.g., EAM, CMS)
