We are recruiting someone to support our current Driver in transporting children to and from our Alternative Provision sites around North Somerset, this can involve picking up and dropping off to or from the learners house or education setting, and bringing them to their provision site. You will be provided a transport plan for each day, detailing who the learner is, where the pick-up/drop-off is and when this needs to take place. For more information about our provision, please see our website for details   .

All of the learners we support are vulnerable and have an EHCP to define their additional needs or an EHCP in progress. Creativity, perseverance and an empathetic approach when working with them is key to engaging them in education and ensuring their progression.

We are seeking someone with previous experience of having worked with children, or other relevant interactions and who is available to offer transport services from a childs' home to the learning sites and also between the sites. Whilst this is a role to provide transport to learners and not directly supporting their education, the ideal person must be able to act as a positive role model.

We're looking for someone who is willing, able and confident to drive the company vehicles which is an MPV / people-carrier. It's not expected that you would be using your own vehicle. You must have flexibility during the hours of 9:30am - 3:30pm for 16 - 23 hours per week however the hours of work are negotiable. You will be working with children that have additional needs and may have experienced trauma or other adverse childhood experiences, therefore, as a person we're seeking someone, calm, patient and empathetic.

Essential criteria:

Full, clean driving licence

Minimum 25 years old (for insurance reasons)

Willingness to undergo Safeguarding & Prevent training

Desirable criteria:

Additional driver training (MIDAS trained, Advanced Driving Training, ROSPA driver training)

The role is offered on a 1-year fixed-term contract basis until the end of the academic year (21/07/2025) with the intention to offer a permanent contract from September 2025, pending funding review.

We're building our next great team so if you love working with people who are dedicated to supporting young learners that strive to support their development in a positive setting, this is the role for you.

Every Child, Every Opportunity, The Right Opportunity

Our approach is to offer a bespoke and relevant learning program for each learner. Integration into standardised education opportunities and social integration is everything we do. No child should have their future negatively affected or be excluded in their later life due to the lack of access or support for education opportunities that are appropriate to their abilities & strengths.

We believe strongly in people and look for people that have:

Education-relevant qualifications in supporting teaching & learning

good experience in supporting young people in an education setting

understanding and expertise in supporting learners with SEND

tenacity & resilience to manage, influence & effect positive behaviours & decisions in learners

the ability to present a strong role model for young people, including having fun!

collaborative and pro-active working practices

a strong sense of responsibility & work ethic

We also recognise that many people who are interested in such a role may not have specific experience as detailed so we would still welcome an application from those that have substantial experience of supporting young people with SEND or other challenges in education.

All applications will be managed by Elementa. Successful applications will have a full-prescreen, interview, ‘insight session’ and visit to one of our Alternative Provision sites. Any appointment will be subject to a successful interview process, satisfactory references, DBS Enhanced Disclosure and successful completion of employment trial period.
