EDITOR / ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER
Maternity Cover

Mark Allen is a growing media organisation with 550 individuals across 7 offices. We are seeking an Editor / Associate Publisher to join our healthcare team, focusing on publications The Veterinary Nurse, Livestock, Companion Animal, UK-Vet Equine, and the Veterinary Wound Library.

This is a maternity cover, hybrid role, 3 days in the Herne Hill office, with a salary range of £40,000 - £45,000 (DOE) plus benefits. We will provide on-the-job training where required so you feel fully supported.

Leadership & Team Collaboration:

1.

* Lead and work closely with the editorial and senior leadership team ensuring that all are motivated and that high editorial standards are maintained.

* Ensure all journals within the team are produced accurately and on time, maintaining high-quality standards and relevance to the target audience.

* Attend relevant conferences and exhibitions to gain exposure and represent the journals.

* Report at MA Healthcare (internal) meetings on the performance of the products within the publishing team, ensuring high standards of editorial excellence.

* Ensure editorial board meetings are held regularly for each journal.

* Represent the journals at relevant conferences, exhibitions, and press launches as required.

Journal Production & Content Management:

1.

* Edit and produce The Veterinary Nurse and Livestock journals, and associated publications and projects.

* Handle page layouts in Adobe InDesign, write editorials, captions, and headlines, and liaise with consultant editors and editorial boards to ensure timely and excellent production.

* Commission high-quality articles relevant to the audience and manage the peer review process.

* Ensure agreed editorial budgets are adhered to.

Commercial Opportunities & Project Management:

1.

* Work closely with the Managing Director and sales team to implement brand extensions, including sponsorships, supplements, reprints, and awards.

* Maximise sales potential through close liaison with the Managing Director, sales executives, and editors.

* Ensure online journal sites are up-to-date, offering commercial opportunities such as subscriptions.

* Involve in project extensions, including award initiatives and conferences.

* Ensure tight budgetary control over costs and contribute to the annual business plan.

Requirements:

* Proven experience in a similar editorial or publishing role, preferably within the healthcare or veterinary sector.

* Previous experience in creating and implementing budgets.

* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

* Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and other relevant publishing tools.

* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

* Experience with commercial opportunities and brand extensions is an advantage.
