Drivers Mate – Skelmersdale
£13.05 per hour | Overtime £19.58 per hour (over 48 hours)
Friday to Monday + 1 ad hoc weekday shift
Flexible People Ltd are currently recruiting Drivers Mates to join a well-established client based in Skelmersdale, working alongside experienced 7.5t delivery drivers.
This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable, physically fit and hardworking Drivers Mate looking for regular work with a consistent Friday to Monday working pattern, with an additional ad hoc weekday shift available when required.
As a Drivers Mate, you will work alongside the driver to safely and efficiently deliver large items directly to customers' homes. You will play an important role throughout the delivery process, from preparing for deliveries and keeping customers updated to safely moving and delivering heavy items.
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, is comfortable with physical work and takes pride in providing excellent customer service.
The Role
As a Drivers Mate, you will assist with the delivery of large items to residential properties, including:
Flat-pack furniture
Gym equipment
White goods
Other large and heavy household items
This is a physically demanding role involving regular heavy lifting, so a good level of physical fitness is essential.
Working Hours & Shifts
* Friday to Monday
* Additional ad hoc weekday shift
* Weekend work is mandatory
* Start time: 06:00
* Shift length: approximately 9–11 hours per day
* The client operates 7 days a week
* Applicants must be available to work the required Friday–Monday pattern
Key Responsibilities
* Assisting the driver with the safe delivery of goods
* Loading, unloading and safely handling large items
* Helping to deliver goods into customers' homes
* Calling customers ahead of arrival to provide delivery updates
* Providing excellent customer service throughout the delivery
* Assisting the driver when manoeuvring the vehicle
* Acting as a Banksman when the lorry is reversing – full training provided
* Working safely and following all relevant procedures
Requirements
To be considered for this Drivers Mate position, you must:
* Be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy items
* Be reliable, organised and punctual
* Have good communication and customer service skills
* Be comfortable working early starts and long shifts
* Be able to reliably commute to Skelmersdale
* Be available to work Friday to Monday
* Be available for an additional ad hoc weekday shift
* Own your own steel toe-cap safety boots and high-visibility vest
Training & Compliance
* Attendance at a mandatory induction day is required before starting
* Drug testing may be carried out at any time, including during induction
* Full Banksman training will be provided
Pay
£13.05 per hour
£19.58 per hour overtime, paid for hours worked over 48 hours per week
