Drivers Mate – Southampton

£13.05 per hour | Overtime £19.58 per hour (over 48 hours)

Weekend availability is mandatory – please do not apply if you are unable to work at least one day of the weekend.

Flexible People Ltd are currently recruiting Drivers Mates to join a well-established client based in Southampton, working alongside experienced 7.5t lorry drivers.

As a Drivers Mate, you will play an important role in helping the delivery team safely and efficiently deliver large items directly to customers’ homes. This is an ideal opportunity for a reliable and physically fit Drivers Mate who enjoys working as part of a team and providing excellent customer service.

As a Drivers Mate, you will assist the driver throughout the delivery process, from preparing for deliveries and keeping customers updated to safely moving and delivering heavy items. The successful Drivers Mate will need to be comfortable with physical work, working early starts and being on the road throughout the day.

The Role -

As a Drivers Mate, you will assist with the delivery of large items to residential properties, including:

Flat-pack furniture

*

Gym equipment

*

White goods

This is a physically demanding role and requires a good level of fitness, as heavy lifting is involved.

Working Hours & Shifts

*

The client operates 7 days a week

*

You will ideally need to be able to work 'any 5 in 7 days' however, they can take your preference of the following rota's into account -
Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday

*

Weekend work is required and expected

*

Start time: 06:00

*

Shift length: approximately 9–11 hours per day

Key Responsibilities-

*

Assisting the driver with the safe delivery of goods

*

Calling customers ahead of arrival to provide delivery updates

*

Delivering excellent customer service at all times

*

Acting as a Banksman when the lorry is reversing – full training provided

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must:

*

Be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy items

*

Be reliable, organised and punctual

*

Have strong communication and customer service skills

*

Be able to reliably commute to Southampton

*

Own your own steel toe cap safety boots and high-visibility vest

*

Be available to work at least one day every weekend

Training & Compliance-

*

Attendance at a mandatory induction day is required before starting

*

Drug testing may be carried out at any time, including during induction

Pay-

*

£13.05 per hour

*

£19.58 per hour overtime, paid for hours worked over 48 hours per week
