Description:
Vertical Recruitment is working with an independent construction consultancy looking to establish a new city-centre office in Manchester.
They are looking to appoint a Director of Project Management to lead the office, develop the Project Management service and build a team around an existing platform of clients and commissions.
The commercial side of the role is important. They’re looking for someone with an established network across Manchester and the North West who can bring client relationships and new opportunities into the business.
There is already an established consultancy behind the appointment, so this isn’t about starting from scratch. The incoming Director will have the backing of the wider business while having considerable influence over the clients, team and direction of the Manchester office.
The Business
The company is an independent construction consultancy working with developers, investors, private clients and organisations across the UK property and construction market.
Its portfolio includes:
* Residential & mixed-use
* High-end residential
* Commercial
* Education
* Healthcare
* Industrial & logistics
The business has developed a strong base of repeat and referred clients, with an emphasis on senior involvement, technical quality and long-term relationships.
The Manchester office forms part of the consultancy’s wider plans for growth and will provide a base from which to develop its existing Project Management capability and client relationships across the North West.
The Role
As Director of Project Management, you’ll lead the Manchester office while taking responsibility for developing the Project Management service locally.
The role combines client development, team leadership and project delivery. Initially, there will be a strong focus on developing the client base and pipeline, alongside overseeing key commissions and establishing the structure of the Manchester team.
Your remit will include:
* Establishing and leading the Manchester city-centre office
* Developing the Project Management service across the North West
* Bringing established client relationships and new opportunities into the business
* Developing those relationships into new commissions and repeat work
* Building a sustainable pipeline of Project Management projects
* Providing senior oversight across key commissions
* Recruiting and developing a Manchester-based Project Management team
* Setting appropriate PM processes, governance and reporting
* Identifying target clients and sectors
* Taking responsibility for fees, pipeline, revenue and commercial performance
* Working closely with the wider leadership team on the development of the Manchester business
As the office develops, the emphasis will increasingly move towards leading the team, maintaining key client relationships and taking wider responsibility for the performance of the Manchester operation.
About You
This is likely to suit an established Director or commercially strong Associate Director from a construction or property consultancy who already has a strong position within the Manchester and North West market.
An established client network is an important part of the brief. They are looking for someone who can bring relationships into the business and has a track record of developing those relationships into consultancy work.
You’ll ideally bring:
* Strong consultancy-side Project Management experience
* An established network of clients and contacts across Manchester and the North West
* A track record of winning and generating consultancy work
* Relationships with developers, investors, occupiers and/or other property clients
* Experience developing and managing a pipeline of opportunities
* Strong commercial understanding of consultancy fees, revenue and profitability
* Experience leading complex construction projects and multidisciplinary teams
* Experience recruiting, mentoring and developing teams
* The credibility to represent and develop a consultancy within the Manchester market
* Chartered status or recognised professional accreditation such as MRICS, MAPM or equivalent
* A commercially minded and accountable approach
Previous experience opening an office or establishing a new service would be useful, but isn’t essential. The priority is someone with the client relationships, market knowledge and commercial experience to develop the Manchester operation successfully.
The Opportunity
The role would suit someone who has built a strong position within the Manchester market and is now looking for more control over how they develop their client base and team.
There is an established business, existing Project Management work and investment behind the new office. The incoming Director will be responsible for developing that presence locally - bringing relationships into the business, securing new work and gradually building a team around the pipeline.
Rather than joining an established regional office with an existing structure, there is scope to influence how the Manchester operation develops from the outset.
As the office grows, the intention is for the Director to take increasing responsibility for its commercial performance and wider direction.
An established consultancy, a new Manchester office and the scope to build around your own network.
