Design Technology Technician – 'Outstanding' School in Maida Vale

Location: Maida Vale, West London

Position: Design & Technology Technician (Workshop & Practical Support)

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent / Long-Term (Term Time Only)

Salary / Rate: Competitive Support Staff Scale (Inner London) / Negotiable based on experience

We are seeking a proactive, organized, and skilled Design & Technology Technician to join an 'Outstanding' Ofsted-rated secondary school in Maida Vale.

This role is vital to the smooth running of a vibrant and well-resourced DT department. You will work alongside experienced teaching staff to maintain workshop facilities, manage machinery, and support students in practical Design Technology, Product Design, and Engineering lessons.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare timber, metals, plastics, and tools required for Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level practical sessions.

*

Maintain, service, and ensure the safe operation of workshop machinery (e.g., band saws, sanders, pillar drills, 3D printers, and laser cutters).

*

Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety standards (DATA guidelines) across all workshops and prep rooms.

*

Support teachers and students during practical lessons, demonstrating tool usage and offering technical guidance.

*

Manage department stock levels, conduct annual inventory checks, and place orders for materials and consumables.

Requirements:

Previous experience as a DT Technician in a school environment OR relevant background in carpentry, engineering, or practical design trades.

Strong knowledge of workshop machinery and Health & Safety procedures (H&S/DATA qualifications are advantageous).

Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., 2D Design, SolidWorks, 3D printing) is desirable.

*

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

*
