Design Manager - Surrey

A leading Group are currently looking to expand within the Design department and hire a Design Manager. The group itself turnover around £75m across multiple sectors. This particular company within the group cover all Glass Partitions & Glazing.

Responsibilities & Duties:

* Providing technical review of tender packages, highlighting risks and opportunities

* Populates a Specification matrix with rationalised and value engineered alternative partition clauses.

* Produces proposal sketches for alternative construction details.

* Attends mid bid meetings with the client where appropriate.

* Reviews design related contract clauses.

* Prepares design related tender qualification.

* Attends hand over meetings.

* Review contractual requirements / tender scope and level of design Collates construction issue drawings and specifications.

* Identifies details and drawings required.

* prepare and populate a drawing log and drawing numbering list.

* Checks layout plans to ensure partitions are suitably located to suit slab heights, fire & acoustic strategy, and environments (such as bathrooms).

* Identify any risks and opportunities.

* Produces a specification matrix using the performance criteria only.

* Populate risk register.

* Identify all systems and materials that would require a technical submittal and populate a technical submission matrix.

* Reviews project information and raise any RFI's for missing or required information.

* Prioritisation of workload and work to deadlines.

* Produces Models in Revit, Layout plans and elevations in Revit & AutoCAD, 2D details.

* Delegate, manage and review Junior Designer workload.

* Manage technical submissions and design related RFI’s on online collaboration systems.

* Challenges comments that are not achievable or technically viable

* Communicate and meet with clients to request information and discuss design/technical issues, proposals, and programme milestones; developing a good working relationship to enable the smooth running of the project and long-term relationships.

* Obtains complex design solutions that are underwritten by the manufacturers or specialist design consultants.

* Attend design workshops with architects, clients, and other trades. Ensures products and systems used have the correct test data and technical back up.

Experience & Capabilities:

Experience in Cat B glazed partitioning and/or glazed firescreens and proprietary curtain walling systems detailing design either with internal glazing sub-contractor or manufacturer, design package production.

* A good understanding of material and labour costs, Typical project specific online collaboration software

* Glazed partitions and /or Forster and Schueco CW and fire screens, Fire stopping applications.

* Understanding of related Standards and Codes of Practice, Revit and AutoCAD Skills, Ability to review on site detail issues
