At NP Aerospace, the Design Engineer plays a critical role in the development, enhancement and integration of military vehicle systems and components for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in the UK and other global partners including North America. This position requires expertise in vehicle design, engineering principles, and compliance with military standards and regulations.

This role will support the global expansion of our military vehicle engineering and technical services operation. This part of the business specialises in complete vehicle integration and support solutions, including the Protected Mobility Engineering Technical Support (PMETS) contract which places NP Aerospace as engineering authority for the UK Ministry of Defence protected mobility fleet including Mastiff, Foxhound, and Jackal.
The Vehicle Systems, Services and Spares (VSSS) team has over 25 years of experience leading complex military vehicle integrations and has supported over 2,000 vehicle platforms. Check out our website to find out more!
As a key member of the team, you will work with other team members and project managers, both within the PMETS Team, the wider organisation and on occasions with suppliers and clients.
You will be working on a range of technical development projects which are targeted to ensure that our products are the most technically advanced and competent on the market and design to upgrade and sustain the UK Protected Mobility fleet.
Please note: Successful candidates will be required to sign the Official Secrets Act and pass necessary checks before employment.

MAIN JOB DUTIES
1. Development of system designs that, in parallel, satisfy the needs of efficient and effective manufacture / assembly and ongoing supportability, while not compromising in terms of robustness and reliability.
2. You will recognise the need for engineering change and raise engineering change requests as appropriate.
3. You will undertake problem solving of design and product issues to resolve functional issues as they arise throughout the development and service lifecycle.
4. You will interact with production and quality teams to investigate and obtain any necessary corrective action data.
5. Support prototype system design and build.
6. Test and test rig definition in advance of prototyping as part of the test readiness process.
7. Input into the definition of V&V activity to support validation of Electrical Systems & components.
8. Support of customer evaluation of prototypes, on occasion at customer site.
9. You will assist with the drafting of associated product information, including manufacturing instructions and other technical publications.
10. You will work to the department’s standards and procedures.
11. You will support other areas of product design engineering, as required

CRITICAL OUTPUTS AND ACHIEVEMENT REQUIRED
You will be required to ensure that design solutions derived for current projects conform and satisfy the requirements specified by the Customer in accordance with contract requirements.
You will be required to support Operations to ensure that components and assemblies can be manufactured effectively and efficiently, and the business delivers its customer commitments
You will be required to support the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) effort to ensure a sustainable support solution.
You will ensure that the company’s pedigree for innovation is sustained.

EXPERIENCE
Essential
Proven track record of successful involvement in design & development projects – inception to launch.
2 years minimum experience in a Design office using 3D CAD software, preferably Pro Engineer CREO 6.0 or higher.
Experience using PLM software, preferably Windchill 10.1 or higher.
Full understanding of engineering drawings and design standards, to BS8888.
Familiarity with Armoured Vehicle electrical sub-systems.
Familiarity with configuration control and change management (Def Stan 05-57).
Experience in compiling Design FMEAs.
Experience of robust engineering practices including technical risk management.
Ability to communicate effectively on a technical level with both peer and management groups.
Proficient user of MS Office software.
Desirable
​Previous experience in the design and development of military vehicles or their sub systems.
Alternatively, experience within an aerospace or defence environment.
Experience for a number of years using Pro Engineer CAD software.
Experience using Pro Engineer Cable software package
Experience using Pro Engineer FEA software.
Experience in the validation and verification of product including environmental qualification.
Thorough understanding of the principles of systems engineering.
Experience of contracting with the UK MoD.
