A leading house builder are looking to recruit a Design and Planning Technician to work from their Shrewsbury,Shropshire office.

The role:
Reporting to the Development Manager and Drawing Office Manager. The successful post-holder will work within the Technical department servicing the business.

Being a team player and with excellent communication skills you will be responsible for a number of development opportunities and be involved in delivering the whole of the Technical functions associated with a residential development. The role will report to the Development Manager in formulating the planning application details, drawings and co-ordinating the supporting information required to formulate a valid planning application from consultants as required.

In conjunction and reporting to the Drawing Office Manager, the role will incorporate collating and submission of building control information, production of house type working drawing packages, co-ordination of engineering details to inform site levels and highway and drainage principles ensuring submission to local highway and drainage authorities for approval.

Preparation of technical information for tender purposes and its use in the construction process as well as co-ordinating consultants, where required, are a key part of the role as is close liaison with colleagues across all areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities:
Interpret instructions from Heads of Department, Design Manager and Drawing Office Manager regarding the production of technical drawings and preparation of planning applications
Ensure drawing accuracy and their compliance with building regulation standards, planning policy and highway and drainage authority standards.
Production of Designers Risk Assessments and coordination of consultants Designers Risk Assessments.
Discharge of planning conditions and maintaining up to date planning condition monitors. Ensuring conditions are cleared to avoid delays with site development.
Discharge of building regulation conditions and submission of building control applications. Ensuring conditions are cleared to avoid delays with site development.
Comply with all Health and Safety requirements and Health and Safety Policy.

Adhere to requirements in production and management of all technical information and liaison with external parties, local authorities, building control authorities, drainage authorities, highway authorities and customer service, (internal and external customers).
Be communicative and honest in approach; bring new ideas and challenge where appropriate.

The Company:
A leading premium house builder in Shropshire, running some of the most prestigious developments in the area, allowing the company to grow confidently. The business currently has plans to continue to grow with a future 4 year's worth of land pipe lined at present.
Currently building 125 homes annually and looking to grow to 200.

The Person:
ONC / HNC or better in an Architectural related discipline
Strong CAD skills with at least two years relevant CAD experience
Extensive experience in the production of construction related drawings
Ability to take instructions or sketches and produce unambiguous drawings to a high standard of accuracy in an appropriate format, and to agreed timescales.
Knowledge of the design and planning process and good design ethos, place making.
Awareness of building control standards, their regulations and requirements, Lifetime Homes.
An understanding of engineering principles including structural and civil engineering.
Problem solving and decision-making skills in line with level of responsibility, communication with the rest of the team, line managers and colleagues in other departments.
Recognise and understand the importance of your own contribution to CDM and SHE in the workplace.
Be customer aware and how the role supports good customer care, build quality and working collaboratively.
