Job Title: Deputy SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)

Location: Lewisham

Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: Paid to Scale

Start Date: Immediate start or for the new academic year

Role Overview: As Deputy SENCO, you will work closely with the SENCO to ensure the provision of high-quality support and intervention for students with special educational needs and disabilities. You will play a key role in leading and coordinating SEN provision across the school, collaborating with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to promote the inclusion and achievement of all students.

Key Responsibilities:

· Support the SENCO in the development, implementation, and review of the school's SEN policy and provision map.

· Lead the identification, assessment, and monitoring of students with SEN, ensuring that their individual needs are understood and addressed effectively.

· Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt and differentiate curriculum materials and teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with SEN.

· Provide guidance and support to teaching and support staff in implementing effective SEN strategies and interventions.

· Maintain accurate records of SEN provision, progress, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice.

· Liaise with external agencies, including local authorities, health professionals, and specialist services, to access additional support and resources for students with SEN.

· Support the SENCO in providing training and professional development opportunities for staff on SEN-related topics.

· Foster positive relationships with parents/carers of students with SEN, involving them in the SEN review process and providing advice and guidance as needed.

Requirements:

· Qualified teacher status (QTS) and relevant postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or equivalent.

· Proven experience working with students with SEN in a school setting, including experience of SEN coordination or leadership.

· Sound knowledge of SEN legislation, policies, and best practices.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.

· Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage SEN provision effectively and maintain accurate records.

· Commitment to promoting inclusion, diversity, and equality of opportunity for all students.

· Willingness to engage in continuous professional development and keep abreast of developments in SEN practice and policy.
