The Role: Deputy Manager (Children’s home)

Location: South East London

Salary: £32,000 (£15.38 p/h) - £36,000 (£17.31 p/h) (depending on experience)

Hours: Shift based (Full Time 40+ hours with some flexibility)

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of a Deputy Manager, but are not limited to:

* To assist the Manager with the development and coordination of the Home, in accordance with OwnLife’s policies, and to deputise for the Manager in his/her absence

* To assist the Manager in the overall management and day-to-day operation of the Home, ensuring that the home is a safe and secure environment

* To share responsibilities with the Manager and Senior Support Workers to ensure adequate management cover for the home

* To be the Line Manager to Senior and Support Workers. Providing line management support and leadership to staff and residents on a shift by shift basis, ensuring that the needs of the young people are met in accordance with their relevant plans*

* Provide structured and recorded, as well as informal/on the job supervision for staff, contribute to the staff appraisal system and ensure a high standard of practice and performance by being a role model for the staff, in direct work with young people

* In conjunction with the Manager train and support the staff team, through supervision and formal training processes

* To assist the Manager in ensuring that each member of staff has a training and development plan, and that both the team and individuals receive regular training according to their identified needs and the needs of the Home.

* To monitor the practices and performance of staff according to the developing needs of the residents or the Home

* Work within the code of confidentiality and ensure that records in the home are stored in a manner which is compliant with regulations

* Ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for all persons involved with OwnLife Ltd (including visitors) in accordance the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

* Inform managers in writing, of any unacceptable practices by staff at OwnLife, or their contract staff, and where necessary appear as a material witness in any disciplinary hearings

The Person:

The key skills and qualities of a Deputy Manager:

* Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare / equivalent or working towards

* Experience of working with children and young people

* Worked with young people who present challenging behaviour

* Ability to engage young people, meet their physical and psychological needs

* Ability to work in partnership with other professionals and with the parent(s) carer(s) of the young people in our care

* Understanding of professional boundaries with young people

* Ability to work in a team

* Good numeracy and literacy skills
