HC-One Scotland is developing a Specialist Dementia Care Community (SDCC) at Darnley Court care home. Darnley Court has provided care for people living with dementia for many years but following considerable investment in environmental layout and design, workforce, L&D in Carmichael community, we have exciting new opportunities available for those passionate about supporting people who are emotionally distressed by their dementia and require a specialist service to ensure their needs can be met appropriately.

As an SDCC, Carmichael will become a therapeutic care setting that demonstrates that quality of care and quality of life are of equal significance. It will provide a bespoke living environment embracing space and calming de-escalation rooms, along with enhanced staffing, and specialist training for Colleagues in positive approaches to behaviour, psychosocial therapies and de-escalation interventions and safe restrictive practices. The therapeutic ambition will be that people will be understood as having needs to be met, rather than being defined by their condition.

As a Dementia Nursing Assistant at HC-One Scotland, you will be a role model as you lead by example to embody the quality of supreme kindness in every aspect of your work.

For you, that will mean monitoring and supporting residents living with dementia who experience distress and present with behaviours of concern that others find challenging. As a member of a specialist team, help co-ordinate the care they require to safeguard their wellbeing and the wellbeing and safety of others.

Comply with the company’s medicines management arrangements ensuring medicines are appropriately received, stored and administered. Ensuring concerns about a Residents health or medicine errors will be reported promptly.

Promote and support accurate reporting and recording by colleagues as appropriate. Ensure that all incidents/accidents are reported in accordance with company and Regulatory requirements to help maintain the safety and welfare of Residents at all times.

Essential criteria for the role:

S/NVQ Level III Health & Social Care (or working towards).

Minimum 2 years’ experience in Health & Social Care where you have been a Senior Carer or a similar position supporting people living with dementia and with leadership responsibilities especially around administering medicines.

Knowledge and understanding of the person-centred care planning process and the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.

Evidence of CPD and a positive approach to continuous training and development.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and therefore it is important that you are able to recognise the signs which may indicate possible abuse, harm or neglect in its different forms and know what to do if there are any concerns. All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding training appropriate to their role and to undertake additional training in associated areas. You also have the ability to seek appropriate advice and report concerns, including escalation if action is not taken.
