Data Warehouse Developer

Location: Shoreditch, East London – however, there could potentially be a need to visit sites at other times

Proposed start date: ASAP

Duration: 3 months with the potential to be extended

Band: 7

Pay Rates:

£23 - £26 per hour paye per hour

£26 - £29 per hour paye inclusive of holiday

£29 - £32 per hour umbrella per hour

Working Days and Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm

Overview:

The post holder is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective.

The post holder will also be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the databases. Additional role requirements are likely to include planning, development and troubleshooting. It is essential to have knowledge of Oracle and SQL and data warehousing technologies.

Duties:

* Ensuring the data warehouse is fit for purpose and can be integrated into other trust systems and processes such as Qulkview and PLIC’s

* Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security

* Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users

* Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline

* Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model

* Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements

* Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS

* Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act

* Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans

* Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly

* Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security

* Commissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose

Essential Experience:

* Experience using Oracle

* Experience using SQL

* Excellent understanding of data warehouse systems and requirements

* A solid understanding of data confidentiality

* Strong understanding of business analysis

* Experience of working in an ITIL environment

Desirable Experience:

* 3 years or more of NHS experience

* Management experience

* Prince 2 qualification

* Good understanding of PAS

Person Specification:

* Able to cope under pressure and to meet deadlines

* Ability to understand complex issues and articulate solutions back to end users and senior management

* Creative and innovative thinker

* Excellent written and oral communication skills
