Job Title: Band 6 Data Engineer

Location: Gilford

Duration: Temporary position, 12 months initially with possibility of extension

Hours: Full Time. Mon-Fri, 37 hours per week.

Salary: £18.10 per hour.

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a Data Engineer who will be Working within a team of data experts, support the provisioning of data platforms and tooling underpinning numerous corporate and customer facing services. You will aid the design, development, testing and operation of data products in an agile manner with an appropriate technology architecture. A key component of the role is improving processes to ensure they remain safe, efficient and effective. As technology evolves you will embrace opportunities to enhance the service offering by researching, piloting and establishing use cases to embrace leading edge solutions.

Duties include:

* Build and maintain data pipelines and ensure our products are robust, performant, safe and cost effective.

* Undertake the extraction, transformation, loading, cleansing and testing of data using a variety of inhouse and enterprise solutions.

* Communicate highly complex data architecture to varied audiences

* Translation of complex data/analytical information to non-specialist users and provision of support in their understanding of the data.

* Interpret, review, analyse, test and optimise data routines, recognising potential defects in the design or deployment and ensuring efficiency is maintained for processing.

* Constantly analyse and support complex data pipelines ensuring processes are delivering expected results intervening when required to ensure compliance.

* Use sound judgement to model and analyse the likely impact of changes to data routines ensuring all amendments achieve the desired outcomes.

* Analyse a range of highly complex system logs and audit trails to optimise system performance.

* Plan and lead on a range of complex work programmes, including for example data and digital initiatives ensuring plans are established, monitored and results reported, flexing where necessary ensure successful delivery of the project.

* Identify and implement opportunities for quality improvement to policies and associated routine data processing activities.

* Propose service developments that could deliver operational efficiencies or lead to commercial opportunities for the organisation.

* Ensure that the security of IT systems and the confidentiality of personal data are maintained at all times in line with the relevant information governance and technical security standards and policies.

* Responsible for expensive equipment and specialist software and its maintenance including but not limited to installation, configuration, performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

Essential criteria:

* Significant experience in manipulation of complex data, data processes, products and platforms

* Extensive experience in automating data processing routines through specialist software, scripting and bespoke development tools

* Experience of operating within a formal and structured data environment utilising formal change control arrangements

* Experience in analysing and documenting processes and requirements to inform the design of solutions

* Experience in integrating solutions using data pipelines.

* Professional qualification at degree level in an information related discipline or equivalent experience

* Evidence of continued professional development

* Ability to flexibly work when required to meet challenging deadlines and support systems without disrupting services to users

* Ability to travel independently to various locations as may be required

Other essential criteria:

Highly developed analytical skills to interpret complex data specifications and requirements

Effective interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to interpret and communicate complex information

Logical approach to problem solving

Advanced keyboard skills

An ability to innovate to tackle problems

Able to prioritise work, schedule and organise own time.

Commitment to team-working

Pragmatic approach to deal with complex situations

Highly developed knowledge of enterprise level data platforms including Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent products

Expert knowledge of data manipulation tools and techniques

Proficient in the use of SQL and scripting solutions to manipulate and transform large and complex relational datasets

Knowledge of information governance standards for data security and confidentiality and an understanding of their application in practice

Desirable criteria:

Experience in manipulation of health and care data

Experience in quality and safety management standards

Experience in using Cloud based service

Microsoft Certified Specialist
