Please see job description for more information
Applicants must be currently registered with the General Optical Council (GOC) as either a dispensing optician or an optometrist. Registration with the GOC is essential for this role. Experience as a Contact Lens Optician and/or an Independent Prescriber is desirable.

Please note that this appointment is offered on a Worker Contract (casual worker/zero-hours basis) and does not constitute an employment contract.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a statutory requirement for all fully qualified optometrists and dispensing opticians. It helps registrants maintain and develop the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to practise safely and protect patients. As part of the GOC’s quality assurance process, CPD Registrant Reviewers assess whether CPD undertaken is appropriate to a registrant’s scope of practice and professional development needs, and whether their CPD records provide sufficient, high-quality evidence of learning completed.

Remuneration
You will be remunerated at a rate of £50 per review, subject to deductions for tax and National Insurance as appropriate. Payment will be made in arrears following completion of the review period and directly into your nominated bank account.

Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses necessarily incurred in carrying out your duties may be claimed in accordance with the GOC's Travel and Subsistence Policy. All claims must be supported by appropriate receipts and/or documentation.

Time Commitment
Registrant Reviewers will review approximately 10 unique pieces of CPD and supporting evidence per review, with each review taking an estimated two hours to complete, including any follow-up requests for additional information where required.

Reviews are conducted over a six-week period twice each year, commencing on:

The third Monday in April (for six weeks)
The second Monday in September (for six weeks)
This is followed by a three-week review period for the CPD Chair. Registrant Reviewers will also be required to attend an induction session and periodic training workshops (approximately one day).

Please note that this appointment is offered on a casual worker (zero-hours) basis and does not constitute an employment contract.

Location
The role is undertaken primarily on a remote basis, with review activity conducted through the GOC's online CPD platform (MyCPD) and communications with registrants carried out predominantly via email.
You will be expected to have access to a reliable internet connection and be confident using Microsoft Office applications and web-based systems such as MyCPD.

Key Dates
Closing date: 7 September 2026. Please note that we reserve the right to close the vacancy early depending on the volume of applications received.
Interviews: 24 to 30 September 2026.
Training: February/March 2027
Appointment start: April 2027
Please note that your application will not be accepted without a CV and a covering letter (maximum two A4 pages) demonstrating how you meet the essential skills and experience required for the role.
