Job Opportunity: Corporate Tax Manager

Location: Guildford

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time

Sector: Accountancy (Corporate Tax)

TPF Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well established accountancy practice in Guildford in their search for a Corporate Tax Manager to join their growing tax team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a respected firm with a long history and a strong reputation for delivering high quality accountancy and tax advisory services. The firm works with a diverse portfolio of entrepreneurial businesses, established companies and international groups, with a particular focus on developing its specialist offering to the technology sector.

About the Role

This is a varied and commercially focused position where you will play a key role in developing the firm's corporate tax offering for technology businesses, including founder led start ups, venture backed scale ups, software and SaaS companies, fintech businesses and international technology groups.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will manage client relationships, deliver complex tax advice and contribute to business development, helping shape the firm's approach to supporting innovative and growing businesses.

Key responsibilities include:

Working with senior colleagues to develop and grow the corporate tax offering for technology clients, including service lines, fee models and business development initiatives

Managing a portfolio of technology clients, acting as a key technical contact and building strong, long term relationships

Advising on R&D tax relief, including preparing and reviewing claims, assessing eligible expenditure and supporting clients with HMRC enquiries

Advising on the tax treatment of software development costs, intangible assets, Patent Box elections, capital allowances and trading losses

Supporting founders and investors with SEIS and EIS applications and compliance, alongside share incentive arrangements such as EMI schemes and growth shares

Supporting clients with transactional and lifecycle advisory work, including funding rounds, group restructures, mergers and acquisitions, tax due diligence, management buyouts and business exits

Advising on international tax matters, including overseas expansion, permanent establishment risks, transfer pricing and the tax implications of overseas subsidiaries and contractors

Reviewing corporation tax computations across a varied client portfolio and preparing computations for more complex assignments

Managing corporate tax compliance projects, including quarterly instalment payments, ATED returns and relief declarations

Building relationships with founders, investors, venture capital firms, accelerators and professional advisers to raise the firm's profile within the technology sector

Leading proposals and new client meetings, contributing to networking events, webinars and thought leadership

Working collaboratively with audit, accounts, outsourcing and corporate finance teams to deliver a joined up service to clients

Keeping up to date with tax legislation and HMRC developments, translating these into practical and commercially focused advice

Supporting and developing junior team members, sharing technical knowledge and building sector expertise across the wider tax team

Ensuring assignments are delivered to a high standard, within agreed budgets and deadlines

The role offers an excellent opportunity to combine technical corporate tax expertise with advisory work, client relationship management and business development. You will also have the chance to help shape a growing specialist service line, build your profile within the technology sector and progress your career as the practice expands.

RequirementsWho We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be an experienced corporate tax professional with a strong UK practice background, looking for a role that offers both technical variety and the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a specialist tax offering.

We would be keen to hear from candidates who have:

CTA, ACA or ACCA qualification, with CTA particularly desirable given the advisory focus of the role. Candidates qualified by experience will also be considered

A minimum of three years' post qualified UK tax practice experience

Experience advising corporate clients, ideally within the technology, software or wider innovation led sectors

Experience with R&D tax relief under the current regime, or a strong desire to develop expertise in this area

Knowledge of areas such as SEIS and EIS, EMI schemes, Patent Box and the tax considerations affecting loss making or investor backed businesses

Strong technical knowledge of corporation tax compliance and advisory matters

Excellent client relationship and project management skills, with the confidence to communicate complex tax matters clearly to non tax specialists

A commercially minded approach and an interest in business development, networking and building new client relationships

Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines

Confidence working independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across the wider practice

Strong IT skills and the ability to embrace cloud based accounting and tax software

A proactive, entrepreneurial attitude and the motivation to help develop a growing service line

Experience within the technology sector would be particularly advantageous, although candidates with a strong corporate tax background and a genuine interest in developing specialist sector knowledge are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

A competitive salary, reviewed annually

Hybrid working options to support work life balance

20 days' annual leave, increasing by one day for each completed year of service up to a maximum of five additional days, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure days

The option to buy or sell annual leave

Ongoing professional development and support towards further qualifications, including CTA

Clear opportunities for career progression and specialisation

Exposure to interesting tax advisory work and opportunities to develop technical expertise
