Description:

We’re working with an established automation and engineering business that is looking for a Controls Commissioning Engineer. The role mixes workshop-based commissioning with technical troubleshooting, plus occasional travel to customer sites in the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities

* Programme, modify and commission control systems, including PLCs, servo drives, robots and specialist controllers.

* Fault-find and adjust electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control systems on complex automated machinery.

* Modify hardware and software to improve performance and reliability.

* Carry out structured testing to verify performance and identify limitations, recording results and modifications accurately.

* Feed back technical issues and improvement ideas to the engineering team, and take part in design reviews.

* Support installation, commissioning and final sign-off at customer sites.

Skills & Experience

* Experience programming and commissioning PLCs and HMIs, such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Festo or Codesys.

* Knowledge of servo drives, VFDs, remote I/O, Ethernet and Profinet.

* An electrical, mechanical or pneumatic engineering background in automation or machinery.

* Confidence reading electrical and pneumatic schematics and engineering drawings.

* Industrial robotics experience, ideally with six-axis robots.

* Strong, methodical fault-finding, testing and documentation, with a safe working approach.

* The ability to work independently and communicate well with colleagues and customers.

* An engineering qualification, vocational training or a recognised apprenticeship.

Benefits & Working Hours

* £45,000–£52,000 base salary, with OTE of £60,000.

* Enhanced overtime rates, with double time on Sundays and an extra allowance for offsite hours.

* Salary reviews linked to development and progression.

* Varied, bespoke automation work with room to develop your commissioning expertise.

* A 39-hour week: Monday to Thursday 7:30am–4:00pm, Friday 7:30am–3:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch and paid tea breaks
