Our client is looking to recruit a Construction Safety & Resilience Manager on a contract basis.

Job Description

Job title: Construction Safety & Resilience Manager

Location: Stansted Airport. Expectation is 3-4 days on-site. Parking available on-site.

Start Date: ASAP

End date: 6-12 months

Hours per week: 40

Provide proactive leadership and advice on health, safety, fire safety, and resilience (HSF&R) to MAG colleagues, leaders, and the supply chain by interpreting statutory requirements (civil and criminal legislation) to ensure legal compliance as a minimum.

Support the development and implementation of MAG’s HSF&R strategic objectives and programmes across MAG, at airport and group levels and promote / influence the transfer of HSF&R ownership to leaders and colleagues through coaching, mentoring and provision of information, processes and procedures as required.
Develop and implement interventions to control risks associated with construction, ensuring that required actions are documented, tracked, implemented, and reported through MAG’s Governance processes.
Review investigations undertaken by the supply chain relating to ‘on-site’ activities to ensure that underlying and root causes have been identified. For more complex investigations, work with MAG teams and others e.g., designers, contractors and third parties to ensure that all causes and learning opportunities have been identified. Where relevant examine the corrective / preventative strategies to achieve a reduction in HSF&R risk.
Cooperate with Enforcement Authorities and Regulators as required or requested by the leadership team where site visits are undertaken or following complaints or reported incidents.
Utilising learning from incidents and accidents develop and communicate Alerts or other messaging to promote shared learning and a just culture through face-to-face briefings, attendance at governance meetings or supplier forums.
Participate in projects, working groups that may be outside the standard of the role remit for the purpose of personal development, or as may be reasonably required by MAG.
Assist the Head of Construction Safety & Resilience and Governance, Performance & Reporting Manager and PMO Risk Manager by providing insights into new or unusual HSF&R risks or challenges faced by construction delivery teams and the supply chain.
Work collaboratively and with pace to development interventions or strategies to monitor and reduce their impacts.
Lead or support in the development and implementation of systems, processes, and tools to achieve MAG standards for HSF&R, including but not limited to the Project Delivery Systems (PDS) in use by project delivery teams and CDM Duty Holders, i.e., designers and contractors
Participate in supplier assessments and tender evaluations with Procurement and project delivery teams to ensure that suppliers have been adequately assessed as having the necessary skills, knowledge, experience (individuals) and organisational capability (companies).
Deliver feedback to ensure a balanced approach has been taken relating to health, safety, fire safety and resilience.
Lead or participate in assurance activities to ensure that HSF&R requirements have been met e.g., in relation to construction.
Provide oversight and feedback to project teams on Pre-Construction Information (PCI), design risk management, construction risk relative to the Construction (Design & Management) and other relevant regulations. · Willing to stand-in for your peer and where necessary / practicable travel to other MAG airports or deputise for the Head of Construction Safety & Resilience.
Identification of areas requiring correction or improvement in-line with statutory or MAG HSF&R requirements including proposed interventions to address emerging trends or high risks.
Provide clear and proportionate direction to MAG airport and group functions where performance falls short of the requirements for meeting HSF&R requirements.
Liaison and collaboration with MAG airport and group subject matter experts e.g., fire safety managers, and supply chain equivalents.
Make reasoned and competent judgements on root causes of incidents together with clear recommended actions to MAG teams and the supply chain.
