Description:

HV Electrical Construction Manager – 400kV AIS/GIS Substations
Location: Glasgow / UK-wide Projects
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: £85,000 - £105,000

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced HV Electrical Construction Manager to support the delivery of major high-voltage substation projects across the UK.
This role requires a proven electrical construction professional with extensive experience managing the installation of HV substation equipment, including 400kV AIS, 400kV GIS, SGT transformers, HVDC systems and associated LV electrical systems.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical understanding of substation installation activities and the ability to lead site teams, manage electrical subcontractors, develop detailed installation methodologies and ensure safe delivery from construction through to commissioning and energisation.

This is a delivery-focused role requiring someone who has hands-on experience within major transmission projects rather than a civils-only background.

Candidates with a purely civil engineering, groundworks or BOP background will not be suitable for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and lead the electrical construction delivery of HV/EHV substation projects.
• Oversee the installation of major electrical equipment including:
• 400kV AIS equipment
• 400kV GIS systems
• SGT transformers
• HVDC converter station equipment
• LV AC/DC systems
• Associated protection and control interfaces.
• Manage electrical installation teams, subcontractors and specialist suppliers.
• Develop, review and approve detailed Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS).
• Ensure installation activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.
• Coordinate with engineering, commissioning and project management teams.
• Manage interfaces between OEMs, contractors and client representatives.
• Ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, quality requirements and technical standards.
• Monitor progress, resolve technical issues and support programme delivery.
• Lead quality inspections, snagging, testing and handover activities.
• Support commissioning activities through to energisation.
• Maintain strong safety, environmental and quality standards throughout delivery.

The successful candidate must have:

• Significant experience delivering HV/EHV substation installation projects.
• Proven experience managing the physical installation of substation electrical equipment.
• Experience with 400kV AIS and/or GIS installations.
• Experience managing installation of power transformers / SGTs.
• Experience working within transmission environments.
• Experience producing and reviewing detailed Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction methodology.
• Experience managing electrical subcontractors and site teams.
• Experience working with major utility clients, OEMs or EPC contractors.

Desirable Experience

• HVDC converter station experience.
• National Grid, SP Energy Networks, SSEN or equivalent transmission experience.
• Experience with OEMs such as Siemens Energy, Hitachi Energy, GE Vernova or similar.
• Experience supporting commissioning and energisation activities.
• Knowledge of protection, control and SCADA interfaces.
• Experience working under NEC contract environments.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an experienced HV electrical construction professional who has progressed through hands-on delivery roles and understands what it takes to successfully install and energise complex transmission assets
