Construction Estimator (Groundworks)

Location: Newton Abbot

Package: £(phone number removed) + car allowance and private medical insurance

Our client, a leading groundworks and civil engineering contractor, based in Devon, are looking for a Construction Estimator to join their team. This is a great opportunity to join a highly successful Civil Engineering Company located in the South West.

Responsibilities:

* Conduct quantity take-offs and accurately estimate material, labour, and equipment costs for construction projects.

* Participate in bid meetings, negotiations, and attend all pre-let meetings to optimise project costs and profitability.

* Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labour, materials, subcontractor costs, and overhead expenses.

* Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to understand project requirements.

* Undertake site visits to assess project scope, conditions and potential challenges.

* Research and analyse market trends, material costs, and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.

* Utilise construction estimating software and tools to streamline the estimating process and maintain accurate records.

* Present cost estimates and possible value engineering opportunities to management and clients, providing clear explanations and justifications for cost projections.

* Deliver the project development budgets and schedules to the project team, ensuring alignment with estimated costs and timelines.

* Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to construction estimating.

* Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids and project documentation.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).

* Proven experience as a construction estimator or similar role in the construction industry.

* Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and techniques.

* Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

* Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to perform detailed quantity take-offs and cost calculations.

* Familiarity with construction estimating software and tools.

* Exceptional Microsoft Office skills, in particular Excel

* Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly present and explain cost estimates to stakeholders.

* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.

* Knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards.

* Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues and conflicts in a timely manner.

* Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.

* Flexible and adaptable communication skills (email/phone/face to face).

* Full driving license.

* Possess a "can do" attitude and provide support to other members of the team as required
