At Mencap, we value a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we intentionally plan for the success of our colleagues in everything we do. We welcome applications from everyone, so come as you are and join us. Together we are Mencap!

Mencap are piloting a new way of working which supports people with a learning disability to access their community more, at the time they choose, doing the activity they want to. We want to involve communities and volunteers in enabling this to happen. Where there is interest, we would like people with a learning disability to progress onto becoming a volunteer themselves, including through identifying or setting up their own community projects and events.

We are looking for a passionate person to lead this programme in Tameside. You will use community-led practices, a person-centred approach and embed co-production and collaboration into the work. Through working with our existing Me Time service - which supports adults with a learning disability during the week - and building relationships with new people and community organisations, you could support people to become active and included in their local community.

What you need to have for this role:
- A sense of fun
- Passion about your community and everyone accessing it
- Experience of recruiting, working with and managing volunteers
- Experience of working with community organisations
- Experience of coordinating community events and/ or projects
- An ability to build relationships quickly
- An ability to get things going in short time periods

This role will be a combination of working out and about in the local Tameside and Greater Manchester community, working within Mencap’s Me Time Programme and working from home. It is a full time (37.5 hrs per week) fixed term contract until March 2025. However, we are happy to be flexible with working patterns so please let us know if you are interested in discussing part-time opportunities. Access to a car and travel within the local area would be advantageous.
