Compactor Operator
Location: Ruislip, West London
Working Hours: 06:00 - 18:00
Shift Pattern: 4 On / 4 Off

Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Compactor Operator to join a busy refuse and recycling site in Ruislip.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of compaction machinery and mobile plant used to process, reduce and manage waste materials. You will play an important role in maintaining site efficiency, safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
Safely operate waste compactors, balers and other fixed or mobile plant machinery.
Compact and reduce waste materials to maximise available site capacity.
Operate machinery in accordance with site procedures and manufacturer guidance.
Monitor equipment performance and report any operational issues or faults.Maintenance & Safety Checks
Complete daily and weekly plant safety and operational checks.
Carry out routine cleaning and basic maintenance of machinery.
Identify, record and report mechanical defects.
Ensure machinery is left in a safe and secure condition.Site Safety & Traffic Management
Maintain a safe working environment for colleagues, visitors, contractors and customers.
Direct visiting vehicles and customers around the site where required.
Follow site traffic-management procedures and maintain strict pedestrian and vehicle segregation.
Comply with all health, safety and environmental procedures.Waste Compliance
Inspect incoming waste loads and identify prohibited or non-compliant materials.
Ensure waste is handled in accordance with site licence and environmental requirements.
Report and manage rejected or non-conforming waste appropriately.Housekeeping
Carry out litter picking and general housekeeping duties.
Maintain clean, tidy and organised working areas.
Support the wider site team in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.Requirements & Skills
Previous experience operating heavy mobile or fixed plant machinery.
Experience within a refuse, recycling or waste management environment is highly desirable.
Relevant plant operator qualifications such as CPCS, NPORS or equivalent.
Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
Good understanding of safe plant operation and site traffic management.
Ability to identify equipment defects and report maintenance requirements.
Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in an active industrial environment.
Reliable, safety-conscious and able to work effectively as part of a team
