Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for Commissioning Engineer on a 3 Year contract, based on Sites UK Wide. This Role is outside IR35.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a major National Grid substation delivery project, working on the commissioning of new and upgraded 400kV substation assets. This is a long-term opportunity offering contract stability over a 3-year term.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Carry out commissioning activities on 400kV substation equipment, including switchgear, protection, and control systems
* Conduct functional testing, fault finding, and verification in line with National Grid technical standards and specifications
* Liaise with site teams, designers, and client representatives to resolve technical issues during commissioning
* Complete and maintain accurate commissioning documentation, test records, and reports
* Ensure all works are carried out safely and in compliance with relevant HSE, CDM, and National Grid site regulations
* Support handover and energisation activities as required
Requirements
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Demonstrable commissioning experience on high voltage substations, ideally at 400kV or equivalent transmission level
* Strong technical knowledge of high voltage switchgear (GIS and/or AIS)
* Sound understanding of protection, control, and testing systems on transmission assets
* Experience working on National Grid or similar transmission-level projects
* Relevant electrical engineering qualifications (HNC/HND or equivalent
* Willingness to be based on site full-time for the duration of the contract
DESIRABLE
* Previous experience with National Grid technical specifications and processes
* Relevant safety passport / site access qualifications
