Morson are currently recruiting for a commissioning engineer based in London for a long term contract.

The opportunity is to be part of the Thames Tideway Tunnel project which aims to achieve the ambitious target of “Reconnecting London with the River Thames”, by tackling the issue of frequent untreated sewage spills into the river from Londons Victorian sewer network.

The Main Works East is section was secured by the joint venture (“CVB”) to provide a new sewage storage and transfer tunnel from Chambers Wharf to Abbey Mills. It includes the main tunnel, a connection tunnel to Greenwich Pumping Station, various shaft constructions, a connection to the newly constructed Lee Tunnel project, and minor works at the Beckton Sewage Treatment Plant, all as part of an overall project to reduce sewer discharge overflows into the River Thames.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work within the Contractor’s EICA and commissioning team, working alongside the many other disciplines and stakeholders that make up the Tideway Tunnel project delivery team.

The role includes involvement in final design management, change control and factory acceptance testing of control panels and MCCs the procurement, installation, and testing of instrumentation and site acceptance testing, and commissioning. FAT testing can mean being away at a factory for 4/5 days at a time and can be up to two weeks. This will be a rare occurrence.

The project offices and worksites are in East London. Although much of the work is site based, there is some flexibility with respect to working from home for this role when site works do not require attendance. Attendance to UK manufacturing facilities for factory inspection and acceptance testing of electrical equipment will at times be necessary. FAT testing can mean being away at a factory for 4/5 days at a time and can be up to two weeks. This will be a rare occurrence.

What we are looking for

• An experienced Commissioning engineer with a proven track record and preferably with experience of working on Water Industry construction projects and large and complex deliveries.

• A person who can operate effectively as part of a large project delivery team, while being proactive and collaborative in interfacing with multiple stakeholders and disciplines, and across multiple worksites.

• Someone who is comfortable engaging with clients and end users and has good communication skills.

• A person with a commitment of working and contributing to the highest safety standards within the construction industry.

• Someone with a commitment to Right first time in terms of quality and who is able to work within a high governance environment.

• Experience of working within, and administering works to, the framework of an NEC 3 contract would be of value.

• Strong engineering and technical skills in the delivery of EICA works, and in testing and commissioning.

• Additional competencies in LV and ELV electrical works and experience of supporting the management and supervision of electrical installations is of value.

What is the role

• Reviewing designs and managing change control for the EICA scope of works, inclusive of instrumentation, plant, materials, networks, PLC and HMI software, and telemetry and SCADA interfacing.

• Procurement and supply chain management with respect to the EICA scope on the project.

• Ensuring compliance of EICA works with the applicable specifications and standards, and the application of safety and quality systems to the EICA scope of works, inclusive of ATEX compliance for instrumentation within a DSEAR environment.

• Planning, coordinating and attending factory acceptance tests for local control panels and MCCs, inclusive of integrated testing with representative field equipment, telemetry, and SCADA.

• Managing and coordinating on-site EICA works, inclusive of modifications to existing client’s hardware, networks and systems, and the access and revision control and verification of software.

• Collaborating with the LV electrical installation engineers, and the instrumentation and LV subcontractors, to achieve a high standard of installation with respect to instrumentation.

• Planning and coordinating and carrying out factory and worksite EICA inspections, testing and pre-commissioning, inclusive of client acceptance and testing for local control panels and MCCs.

• Supporting of the design, implementation and testing of EICA Temporary Works that enable temporary commissioning monitoring and simulation testing.

• Carrying out commissioning activities.
